Gain a card costing up to $5.
Trash a Mad Scientist from your hand, or reveal a hand with no Mad Scientists.
If you didn't trash a Mad Scientist, trash the gained card.

I think it is too weak. I am not sure how often the side effect of trashing a card cost up to $5 from supply (technically, with DA cards it is a bit more useful?) make it worth it.

Without DA cards I think it needs +1 card to be a commonly useful card. With DA that may be too powerful.

Compare your card to Treasure Map. It gives a much weaker benefit. When you are done, you still have 1 Mad Scientist unlike Treasure Map, which trashes both copies.

I think the card would be better if it was the following form
Trash this card
Gain a card costing 5 to your hand, you may trash a mad scientist from hand, if you do not discard your hand

I expect this would work kind of like Fools Gold

FG still produces $1 even if they don't collide.  This does not.  FG doesn't trash itself upon collision.  This does.

This would be far closer to Treasure Map.  Probably worse because you need at least 3 copies of Scientist and get two collisions, but it IS cheaper and more flexible.
