rinkworks Thank You & His Contribution To This Set

First of all, I would like to thank rinkworks for doing a great job organizing and running this contest to design a fan expansion. It has been tons of fun, will create an awesome fan expansion, and has kept me more involved in this community than I would be otherwise. I imagine it is a lot of work doing all the bookkeeping, making sure all your PMs get read and added to lists / votes correctly, etc. So, thanks!

I am also thinking it would be nice if rinkworks contributed one of the last cards to the set, since he put in so much work. Here are a few options:
  • rinkworks chooses one of his fan cards to add as the last card.
  • rinkworks chooses a set of his fan cards (as many as he likes), and has us vote on them to decide which is included. This way, he gets to have a card in voting, yet we all get to help him decide which one we like best.
  • rinkworks chooses his favorite fan-submitted card that didn't win any of the contests to add to the set.
My favorite is #2 - I think it would be fun and a good way to have rinkworks include one of his cards. But, I'm also open to the others or other suggestions!

No offense to rinkworks, but I am sure that he would have enterred the contests if he wanted to enter the set. His card ideas are very good. I would assume that he doesn't just want a free pass into the set, which is what the first 2 options are. The third is saying that his opinion is more important than all of ours. Since he ran a contest with voting, etc., I am not sure that he would want to supercede the voting.

It would be preferrable and more likely that we end with some kind of hole-filling in terms of cost/ role, an anything goes contest, or a contest between entrants that almost won. Rinkworks, feel free to submit if you would like to.

Well, we could just do a "best of the runners-up" contest eventually.

But there's still so much design space that we haven't done!
We haven't even done simple Treasure yet, right?

I think this is the plan. I meant in addition to it.

Right. I'm not saying that the contest is over, I'm just bringing this up before that happens so we can start thinking about it.

@One Armed Man - I really doubt rinkworks would want to enter a card in a contest he is running. I wouldn't. So many things could go wrong. And even if they don't, he would probably get blamed for designing challenges that fit cards he already has in mind. Either way, he has decided to not enter the challenges, probably for good reason, and I just think it would be nice to give him a chance at a card in the expansion!

Schneau, thank you for such a kind and encouraging post.

I didn't enter mostly because it's a conflict of interest.  If one of my cards won, there wouldn't be any accountability (short of releasing people's votes, I suppose, which is its own can of worms) that I hadn't cheated somehow.  I hope I have build up the trust of the community such that suspicion like that wouldn't take root, but it's still better not to raise the question in the first place.

I'll abstain from commenting on your specific ideas, except to say that if the community here manages to come to some sort of vague consensus about what they want (short of me competing in the normal challenges open to everyone), I would be happy to go along with that.

Thanks so much to rinkworks for doing this contest and running it flawlessly. I enjoyed making the fan cards and reading about other people's designs, and there are lots of good ones out there!

An even bigger shame than not getting rinkworks' contributions is not getting rinkworks' analysis of all the cards.

So, what do people think about rinkworks actually contributing a card to the expansion? I'm highly in favor of #2 from my original post, but would be open to other suggestions. What do people think?

I like #2 the best as well. It would be fun to vote in and you wouldn't be biased to hype your card. :P

How about option 4 (a combination of 2,3, and last challenge):

4) For the last challenge, where top picks from previous categories are voted on, rinkworks serves as "editor" and picks any submitted cards he wants to add to the pool and/or submits his own, with comments on why he thinks they should be reconsidered or why his new cards would be good additions to the set.

This seems a little weird, in that he'll be arguing both for other peoples' cards as well as his own. I think I like it better having two separate end contests - one with previous contest second-places, and one with rinkworks' cards. But, if lots of people like this, then we could try it out.

Sometimes you just like other people's cards better than your own. It just leaves the options open.

Honestly, I really do think we should just give rinkworks a lot of respect (+1s) for setting up the contest and doing the work. That's what respect is there for.

A good target for respect would be each of the contest description's OPs

I vote for having him list several of his ideas and having us choose between them a favorite.

Option 2 seems to be the popular choice here, but only a minority of contestants have chimed in here, so it's far from a mandate.  So here's what I think I'll do:  after all the challenges are done, I'll post a selection of my own fan cards and hold a vote on it, but I'll include "none" option.  If it wins, nothing of mine goes in.  No other card will substitute, either:  then my cards aren't competing with anybody else's.  To hold myself accountable, votes for that round will be made public.

Sound good?

Sounds good to me! Or, I'd be happy to post a poll about it. But, we might get the same problem with few people voting.

Although I'm a new face around here, that sounds good to me.  I look forward to seeing your designs, rinkworks.

Haha.  Well, I'm going to assume that None votes mean "Your cards are AWESOME, but they don't really fit in the set."  Which is fair.  I do have a number of Victory cards and drawers after all, although I don't know what I will enter yet.
