Dark ages breaks my brain

Just played some Dark Ages on Goko against a bot... I created a Kingdom with Band of Misfits, Procession, Fortress, Alter, King's Court, Grand Market, and Goons. So at one point I did something like KC the BoM as Procession choosing BoM as Procession choosing BoM as Procession.... or something like that. I honestly couldn't say exactly what I did, but I received several prompts in a row telling me to gain cards costing $5 and $6. It was quite insane. I couldn't begin to imagine playing that turn in real life and trying to track what was going on.

I know. This set really, really changes the strategy of the game. Things can get rather complex.

I remember a lot of people around here saying that sort of thing when Hinterlands came out. This set makes Hinterlands' game-changing aspects look like child's play.

Ya think! ;)  holy crap is it complicated.  Hinterlands got complicated enough with being able to gain cards with border village and haggler, if you know what I mean.

In hindsight, I don't think Hinterlands fundamentally changed Dominion as much as Seaside, Prosperity, or Alchemy... and certainly not as much as Dark Ages.

yesterday we had band of misfits out along with several AP-inducing cards like develop, procession, and squire. it increases the choices you have to make by an order of magnitude.

I never felt that Hinterlands was that complex.

Pretty complex, but not so bad.

The fact that we have a 20 page rules thread for ONE CARD proves this.

I played F2F one of the Dark Ages "recommended" sets which included Fortress/Procession/Band of Misfits. The Fortress/Procession thing is ludicrous and my opponents were like "what the hell are you doing" as I was just grabbing card after card.

It felt a little over-fancy and I'm not sure if it would have beat Catacombs/BM, but it ended up winning that game.

During my first in-person Dark Ages game yesterday, I decided to clue my opponent in to the Fortress/Procession combo, so that we could both enjoy playing it—she Processioned an Armory and I said 'OMG you could top-deck a Procession and a Fortress!' and pointed out how nifty the combo would be, so she went for it.
