All-around cards

What are some good all-around cards? I can think of Jack, BoM, and Count of the top of my head. Procession can be, depending on what you play with it (e.g. Cultist = +7 cards, 2 ruins given per player, gain a $6 card). Market and Grand Market could also fit the bill.

Not sure what you mean here exactly, but Laboratory is the canonical goes-well-with-everything card. Also, Masquerade was (sort of) Jack before Jack was Jack.

Stash. It may not be the best card in the kingdom but it makes very few decks worse.

Also masquerade fits the question in two ways.

Jack isn't an all-around card either. Rather, its a strong card for big money. In engines, it can actually gum things up as often as help.

Gold is the most all-around card I can think of. Barring very specific engines (like Scrying Pool whole deck plus attacks plus fishing villages) I can think of very few games where you won't want gold.

I am also going to vote for Gold and Platinum. Large amounts of them in your deck increases your chances to buy Provinces and Colonies, absent of other cards, and they don't have any drawbacks outside of their high up-front costs.

Your user name would inspire me to say Fishing Village. Among $3's, it's probably the one I want most often over silver, unless I was playing just straight up BM.

Unless the rest of the Kingdom is Treasure and/or VP and/or shitty cantrips, I always open FV/Attack or FV/trasher or even FV/FV.

Iron Monger

Its a cantrip. Tick. Its a mild sifter. Tick. It gives you more of what you've already got, and presumably you have it for a reason.

Engine: Its a village if you hit actions (which you will in an engine deck). Helps you draw when you start greening.
BM: It makes your treasure work double time. Helps you draw when you start greening.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly, but a card in the style of Jack is bureaucrat.  Has 3 small effects (gain silver, your next hand is better, opponent's next hand is worse) that is mainly useful only for big money.

Or for Feodums.

Even more so. Bureaucrat is not really strong in BigMoney. It's better than nothing, but there are way better alternatives. Bureaucrat is strong in "SmallMoney", when your target are $4-$5 cards like said Feodums or other alternative Victory cards, or Duchies.  Or if your deck is a mess anyway, because there's a SeaHag around.

"small money," I love it, perfectly describes the highly underrated decks that thrive on cards like bureaucrat and duchess.

I agree with you, though I'd say that Bureaucrat+money beats pure BM to Provinces. It gets demolished by draw+BM, of course, but sometimes in weak kingdoms Bureaucrat+BM is the best option.

Yeah, that's what i meant with better than nothing. Before you play BMU, play BM-Bureaucrat, but there are lots of BM-X that beat BM-Bureaucrat.  So I wouldn't call it strong.

Edit: From worst to best
Bureaucrat
Moat
Explorer
Militia
Baron
Library
Oracle
Council Room
Merchant Ship
Smithy
Envoy
Rabble
Embassy
Masquerade
Vault
Torturer
Noble Brigand
Margrave
Monument
Courtyard
Goons
Ghost Ship
Jack of all Trades
Wharf

Edit: To be fair, to Moat it seems to be more or less a 46:46 tie.

I doubt the number of kingdoms with Bureaucrat where Bureaucrat+BM is the best option is that high.
You almost have to create a "perfect storm" like kingdom for this to happen.

Jester, Smugglers

Smugglers can help you gain all-around cards, sometimes, but it's not an all-around card, in fact it often whiffs altogether (if your opponent didn't buy anything, bought crap, or bought a $7+ card). I would say it's an anti-all-around card. Ironworks is more all-around as far as gainers are concerned.
