Look, I'm really disappointed with goko and this launch and the security issues. And I am no longer cautiously optimistic about the near future of online dominion. But is this really necessary? I mean, yeah, it sucks. But all this whining is already getting to be a bit much and its only been a day and a half. It's not constructive. And I'd rather this forum not be filled with it.

Agreed. Let's see what the situation looks like a couple of weeks from now.

Nope. I'm afraid I've had to reluctantly come around to Kirian's way of seeing things (as expressed on various other active threads).... I think it was the micro-payments stuff that really was the final straw for me.... and I do feel the need to vent.

So for those of you that do feel able to keep a level head and look forward to the upcoming weeks and months with the hope that things will improve, I'm pleased for you and I hope it works out. I definitely don't feel that way at all.

Without an online option that I feel comfortable about supporting my Dominion play is just going to have to once in a while when I fill the boot with boxes and drive over to my mates place. For an on-line time waster I can play when the kids are in bed 'm going to have to look elsewhere.... any suggestions? Maybe I'm going to have to take up Twilight Struggle....

Here's a thread talking about what to do once iso goes down. You'll find some suggestions there. http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=2990.msg51683#msg51683

http://brettspielwelt.de ... dozens of games available.  Don't let the German language and meta-game / social community aspects scare you away too quickly.

I'm rather amused by how much "whining about whining" there is.

Flight of the Concords are antipodeans just like me so I guess we kind of speak the same lingo.... going over to your mates house is common parlance down here in Australia & New Zealand.

Oh and the whining about the whining is the meta-game right...?

On Twitter, they now admit that they have gone back to beta testing. No new release date announced.

Maybe Goko is part of the meta for the release of Dark Ages. The "theme" of Dark Ages is that hey, times are tough. The lords are moving out of their castles and into nice ravines, with rats and vandals and such. Likewise, our wonderful, glorious online Dominion site is being taken away and we get Goko instead.

Honestly, $85 for 8 expansions seems very reasonable to me, especially since you can buy them in pieces and you can apparently play expansions you don't own depending on your opponents.

(Of course, Goko right now is not worth $85 but that price for a fully functional implementation is not  overpriced.)

No $85 is absolutely insane.
No one who is not already an insanely addicted board gamer will pay that much.
That's quite a bit more than a AAA PC title like Diablo or Skyrim.
This is a game that at its best should be compared to indie release which might go for $15-20.

Its possibly that I MIGHT spend that much on cards, because there I have a physical product I can use for the rest of my life.
But I absolutely will not pay that for an online only experience that I have no confidence will still exist 12 months from now.

Still way overpriced imo

Wow! That's not happening for me (a hardcore Dominion fan) or any of my friends who play more casually. We were talking about this last night and we thought $15-20 was definitely the highest we'd go. That means about $0.99 for each of these mini-expansions.

I hate subscriptions, but even $2/month would be more reasonable (assuming you get access to all cards) than anything close to $85!

I guess compared to $325 ($355 with guilds?) it seems reasonable to me...you don't have to buy all the expansions.  I'll probably split the costs with the friends I usually play with.  Casual players may only buy one or two expansions.

($1 per expansion strikes me as ridiculous in the opposite direction.)

People were honestly expecting to pay $15-20 total for *all* the expansions?

Yes, polonkus, we know -- virtually all your posts to this forum have been criticisms of Goko.  But who other than addicted gamers are going to need to buy all the expansions anyway?

Yeah, $325 is absolutely ridiculous for one board game also.
Here's a question for you: why did this game have to be split into a bajillion expansions?
Do there really need to be so many cards? I find it really hard to believe that the game as conceived actually contained all these and it's not just a money grab.
Honestly I get less and less excited with each new release, it's starting to feel like the power creep and endless grind that made me drop MtG.

If they're gonna be published though, everyone should have them all otherwise you start segmenting your player base into those who own / know the cards from one expansion vs. another. This harms competition and community.

(BTW if you go by number of posts I'd say WanderingWinder probably still gets the brunt of my criticism, not Goko. Certainly if you go by post volume. But the tide is turning yudantaiteki, you won't be able to dismiss Cassandra as a troll much longer.)

Also remember that you only play full retail price if you purchase from a local gaming store.  I buy most of my stuff online, where it is an average of 30 percent less.

I try to support the flgs occasionally, but when you buy probably $500 worth of cardboard per year, it adds up.

At the end of the day, it's fair to compare this to other digital entertainment experiences.

The game itself is very high end.  Twilight struggle is charging $40 I think.  Ascension is having a sale for 99 cents right now.  Le havre: a big box game that normally costs 50? is avail for 5 bucks.  Magic the gathering costs full price.

So... Digital dark ages will cost 18 for a game that you can buy for 45 physical.

That's in the middle of those examples, but it isnt nearly as niche as twilight struggle, and wizards of the coast isn't exactly known for being consumer friendly.

Unfortunately, the implementation is not high end to go with it.

If it was $2 per mini expansion (le havre pricing) - I'd probably do it.

I suspect that like and savvy business - they will drop the price and have sales after they have maximized their profit buy taking more money from the people willing to give it.
