Isotropic Avatars

I saw someone whose avatar was the Isotropic picture of Goons. I suggest that someone who has enough free time and computer knowledge make avatars of all the Isotropic cards before it goes away. Then, as a Tribute (always with a capital T), we change our avatars to Isotropic ones as a farewell to the website. Maybe we all take the corresponding Isotropic avatars of our current Dominion-art avatars (so I would take Iso-Wharf). This obviously does not pertain to those with Dark Ages art.

Off the top of my head, I would probably take Contraband. Maybe Duke.

Many, but not all, of the Iso images can be seen here.

Bleh, can't just simply scrap them from iso, they have some hash value in name.

Knowing that iso has tested Dark Ages, I'm curious as to what the stand-in pictures were for Rats, Hermit, Pillage, etc.

I think only five of the images were recognizable. Madman has The Scream and Squire has the Magic card. There was also a da Vinci thing, another image from Princess Bride, and an image from a Jethro Tull album cover.

The images are all from the prototype (except the VP symbol etc. and a few of the promos).

Just got this from a game in which Highway was a key card :P

Note: I will probably change it into something else from Iso.

It's hard for me to imagine that f.DS could get permission to make avatars out of the actual Dominion art yet not be allowed to do so from the Iso art. It's not like it's my decision to make, I just can't imagine a plausible reason.

The obstacle is that the images are called things like http://dominion.isotropic.org/static/cards/small/contraband.67376407.jpg, and you can't work out what the numbers should be for each card.

I'm sure if someone asks dougz nicely then he'll make them available.

I can think of a reason! The actual Dominion art is all owned by one entity - RGG. The isotropic art, which again is in most cases simply the art I used in my prototypes, is just random googled images from a variety of sources, with a variety of owners. Witch is from The Wizard of Oz, someone owns that; maybe not the same entity that owns the Princess Bride image on Scheme, or the Popeye image on Sea Hag, or the Magic card art on Cutpurse, etc. etc.

At the same time, if you really like that painting of Napoleon on Tactician, or the Red Sea fort shown on Outpost, or the Conan painting on Adventurer, etc. etc., you can google those things yourself and find them. Try an image search on the name of the card, then try adding "castle" or "medieval" or "painting," although when you add medieval you will get some ugly porn, lemme tell you. Of course if you have the isotropic image handy you can also google the image directly and maybe find bigger versions. I just did this for that little copy of Highway's image that appears just above us in this thread, and immediately got multiple copies of the original source image. http://m.cdn.blog.hu/si/sikeresvaros/image/Via%20Appia.jpg

Many thanks. I was just thinking along the lines of, "If Iso can use it without getting into trouble, theoretically, f.DS should be able to do so, as well." If someone owns the rights to Witch's Iso art, does that mean Iso or RGG got permission to use it before putting it on the site? If not, could all of the pictures not just be uploaded to f.DS? Yeah, I don't do the whole copyright stuff too well, I'm just throwing ideas out there.

qmech already clarified, but Grujah wasn't talking about copyright issues at all.  Grujah wrote a script a while ago that just turned all the Dominion card art into avatars automagically.  He was presumably going to do the same with the isotropic, but the image names have hash values (random numbers) that make it impossible (or at least very difficult) to automate the task.

I can save them all to dropbox manually, but its a pain. There probably is am easy way (aside from asking dougz) but I am kinda lazy to think and experment :P

Edit: unless small images (in supply) are ok, than I think I can work something out.

You could... make a bot that starts a solitaire game with each card, and scrapes the images from that page?

Consider this URL:

http://dominion.isotropic.org/static/cards/small/contraband.67376407.jpg

It's in a directory named "small".  Now, if you change the directory to "full":

http://dominion.isotropic.org/static/cards/full/contraband.67376407.jpg

I tested this with a few different cards just now and it seems to be consistent.

By the way, I suggest downloading the image and using that rather than using the image's URL. This prevents it from getting compressed into an ugly square and lets it exist in its natural rectangular form.

I think I can do that, under a separate Isotropic category.  I'll try to do that tonight.

I'm also going to upload all the Dark Ages pictures to the general Dominion Cards category when all the pictures are released and Grujah processes them all.
