Dear my opponent
I am sorry that I used inheritance on thief and stole all of your platinums and fortunes
Platina is the correct plural

Not according to Wiktionary.
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/platinum
(I hate it when people insist on using weird plurals.)

You mean weird pluraliosa

Platina is a regular Latin plural. English is a weird language where words derived from Latin sometimes take English plurals and sometimes Latin ones.

More precisely, English is a weird language where words with typically Latin endings (mostly -us, -a, -um) are sometimes given Latin plurals, regardless of whether they're actually derived from Latin or not.

Platina is a regular Latin plural.
"Platinum" is not, etymologically, a Latin word. It's from the Spanish.

Another Spanish word, really. 'Plata' means silver, 'Platina' is a diminuitive form that could be translated as 'little silver'. Yes, it ends in an -a, but it's singular. Either way, 'plata' was never a classical Latin word; the Latin word for 'silver' is 'argentum', which can be seen in French's 'argent' ('silver' or 'money'), as well as the chemical symbol Ag.

Additionally, the replacement of -um with -a in the name of an element signifies a refractory oxide (e.g. alumina, zirconia, magnesia), of which platinum has none.

If we're going to do this, then I may as well participate.

'Platinum' in this sense, is arguably a proper noun. It means "a card named 'Platinum'". It's even capitalized in the game log. Usually, in English, the convention is to pluralize proper nouns simply by adding an 's', ignoring whatever other conventions might exist for common nouns.

For example:

"How many Toyota Camrys do we have on the lot?" (i.e. you don't write 'Camries')

"How many Kennedys have served in Congress?" (you don't write 'Kennedies')

I just played a game where I opened double Ambassador and my opponent only got one... It turned into a bloodbath pretty fast. There was also King's Court. It reached the point where every time he gave me a piece of junk, he would get 6 copies of it back...

By adding "s" or "es," yes. Dominion has some fun examples. I gave him eight Ruinses, then bought out the Nobleses.

However! The rule doesn't come up much for most people. But for gamers, for a few decades now, it has come up plenty. And this group has not chosen to follow that rule; they pluralize the proper nouns as if they were the thing they refer to, leaving them untouched if already plural - my deck has 4 Llanowar Elves and 4 Cities of Brass, not 4 Llanowar Elveses and 4 City of Brasses.

Since they're the ones actually pluralizing proper nouns and that's how they do it, the trend is for that to be the new rule.

None of this affects Platinum of course. I think when people started saying Platina they were just being silly; if not, man, guys, what? Some people now though may be used to seeing people saying Platina. The actual plural is of course Platinum, or if you want, Platinums. But people saying Platina do communicate clearly.

Do you see what I meant in surplus by its way off topic. What have I done? I said platinums and then people started talking about grammar. You said you were on it. Did that mean join the conversation or try to get it back on topic?

Just had a game where I got King's Court and Witch from the Black Market. I gave him all 10 Curses within 4 turns. He was making some bad choices, but man, I still felt bad for him. I also got Ghost Ship from the BM, as if that wasn't bad enough. At least the game was over fast.

I guess you're posting this on your uncle's behalf? :P

Either that, or you feel sorry for your uncle for buying such a bad card from the Black Market.

To be fair, "opponent has got good alt-treasures from the Black Market" is actually one of the better situations for Thief.

That reminds me when my mom would not exchange her disciples for teachers. I thought she was crazy. She also lost very badly because of it. It also drove me nuts because I couldn't exchange my fugitives for disciples.

Disciple is pretty often stronger than Teacher and it's not at all unusual in high level games to go for Disciple and not get any Teachers.
