Yep, that's the pin.

(Well, typically the pin is something like King's Court+Militia+Masquerade, so that you're stuck at zero cards in hand even before your whole deck is dead)

It's only a pin if it's actually trashing you down to 0 cards in hand, every turn. Otherwise, it's more like a forced Chapel, which can still be annoying but isn't at all a guaranteed loss.

(In such a situation, pick up a Masquerade and play it, which will usually break their combo. Some boards may offer other ways of breaking the combo.)

Well it wasn't out of incompetence, just inattention.  Not realizing that when there are no $2's on the board, 5/2 opening with Horn of Plenty/nothing will lead to nothing but heartbreak.

Assuming there was other support, the correct move would be to (well, just don't play the HoP, but assuming you already screwed that up) gain a Copper, wouldn't it?

Dear RomaNorgy, sorry for only getting to $7 on the last turn when you needed that Province. Looked like a nice comeback after my lucky Mint hand:

http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/29/game-20120429-160521-f980a03a.html

I'm happy personally since it ended the most insane losing streak I've ever had, one which I'd previously have bet good money I would never experience:

Yup, that's 9 straight losses in the span of an hour or so. Fun fun.

Thanks for being a good sport!

On that note, thanks to Fabian for helping me to spot a way to victory in the game I played against him (the 8th of his consecutive losses, I believe).

I was pretty sure I could only draw and commented about it and he expressed doubt, thinking I could beat him by 1 point.  I then looked a little harder and realized I could Mine my Gold into a Harem, then Salvage a Platinum and buy the final Colony.

It takes a very good sport to be in the middle of that kind of bad run and still be generous and friendly.

Yeah it looked to me like you would either lose by 1 or win by 1 (the most straightforward way to win would be to Mine a Harem and buy the last Colony). Getting 10 points or 12 points seemed "easy" on that turn, getting 11 ($13 and 2 buys) seemed not as straightfoward (2 Mine and 1 Salvager in his deck, so getting extra points from Harem was more on my mind at the time). Anyway yeah if I keep my mouth shut for 2 seconds in that game, maybe I get to stop at 7 losses :D

Hi, I'm new here, but I'm not new to dominion or isotropic (level 18 currently). I've ready almost every forum thread in all the sub-forums, but for some reason I haven't ever posted. Here is my first.

Dear MEYER,

I'm sorry for going triple ambassador and cities and giving you all the curses in 19 turns.

Dear Schtroumpf, I am sorry you thought I was a novice who only had a lucky draw. throneroom/feast is indeed a thing that can turn around a game. Though, so is opening throneroom/swindler and hitting my opening 5 card on T5.

Dear Bengoshi, I am truly sorry for what happened in our game.

I really had no idea how to play this board... I was kinda operating in zombie cruise control mode, and so I wasn't making some well-thought-out brilliant move when my 2/5 allowed me to open Native Village and Library.  Honestly, with all seriousness, I don't even know if that really works on this board (thoughts from the peanut gallery?).

I mindlessly played my NV with no regard for my deck composition or what was coming next or anything.  I didn't even buy more of them, just the one.  I lucked into putting coppers and estates on the mat, and having enough on my Library turns to buy golds.

What makes my apology even more poignant is what happened between us in the chat:

14:46 paddyodoors: hi gl hf
14:49 Bengoshi: nicely played
14:49 Bengoshi: but f*** you
14:49 paddyodoors: thanks... just got lucky though
14:49 paddyodoors: however, I don't think you're doing yourself any favors with the insult, as it doesn't hurt me
14:50 paddyodoors: sorry to hear that you feel that way about a game :-/
14:50 Bengoshi has returned to the lobby.

Since it was my turn when I was typing those last lines, it is quite possible that you disconnected before you had a chance to read them, and I only saw your return to the lobby after I finished my turn.  I am sorry that my lucky play was enough to set off your equilibrium to the point of insults.  :(  If you read this, maybe we can try again soon and patch things up?  No joke, serious offer.

I'm sorry I hit $5 on turns 1 and 3 in an IGG game, and I'm sorry you didn't notice Gardens until I piled the IGGs. I'm also sorry you resigned without saying anything.  :(

Dear Wasteguard, I'm sorry you had to sit through this horror:
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120422-051215-7a6e1ccb.html

It's a KC-KC-KC-Lab-Scheme-Scheme-Scheme-Saboteur-Saboteur lock. Then I hope my Lab and Schemes draw enough treasure to buy a Province.
Funny thing is that my opponent actually had Followers which I couldn't destroy and it could have broke the lock, but he never managed to draw it as he kept downgrading to crap (10 Estates and 20 Coppers). His reaction when I first topdecked everything was a desperate "really?", I felt genuinely sorry.  :'(

I wonder if he could have salvaged things by taking Crossroads instead of (some of) those Estates, and maybe taking "nothing" instead of some of those Coppers.  The idea being a desperate attempt to get to Followers to break the lock.

My first post here, let me see if I have the theme right:

Dear Nomen,

I'm sorry that even though I'm terrible at Dominion and scored -2 points for our game, that you were somehow worse.  I'm even sorrier that you didn't get to use your trading post.

17:15 Nomen: you took one more turn i had trading post
17:15 Nomen: **** you
17:16 Nomen has returned to the lobby.

Congratulations on your final turn purchases though.

Is it just me, or do a lot of the 'sorry' post sound very sarcastic? I thought the original intent of this thread was to actually apologize?

Note: I'm not pointing at the recent posts in particular.

It's not just you. Post 126, at least, says the same thing, more or less.

It's a mix of authentic apologies and blatant humblebrags. About what you'd expect, really.

On a board comprised of villages, universities and torturers it's basically a game of roulette with our old friend shuffler.
I am sorry to tell you, Niuz, shuffler owed me one that game.

Still, I must say some decisions are better than others. (Like say, discarding curses instead of accumulating them until the pile runs out)

Crushed in 14 turns into a negative score:
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201205/23/game-20120523-064553-40386b4a.html

This made up for a streak of either out-shuffled close games or outright embarrassments.

Agreed, it was a randomfest. Which called for non-linear thinking. Throne room/Feast was the only way to get something vaguely resembling buying power.

If he had opened correctly and hit 6 early, the game would have been over.

This is a bit of a break from the theme, but

Dear my last several opponents,

I'm sincerely sorry for the fact that I quite rudely told you how little I thought of your strategies after they mopped the floor with me. I was on one heck of a losing streak, but that's no excuse for rudeness. Here's hoping that tomorrow's luck balances out today's.

Dear dr. girlfriend,

I'm sorry for possessing you 23 times in two turns, stealing most of your good cards with your ambassadors. That was probably a bit excessive. I just wanted to make sure you could never, ever do the same thing to me.

Dear yau,

Sorry the shuffler hated you so much on the first few turns of this game:

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120526-190918-8b536806.html

I mean seriously RNG...letting me swindle his Mountebank to a Duchy on turn 5 is bad enough, but to do it again turn 7?  That's just cruel.

Nothing you really could have done about that one yau...that's an incredibly frustrating turn of events, so again sorry about that.
