Renaming: Amulet
« on: August 06, 2012, 09:07:30 pm »

I figured this likely needs its own thread, lest it bloat either of the other threads.  The name Amulet was essentially a placeholder; I was trying to think of some jewelry or currency that made any sense, and ended up tossing Amulet on there.  Now, I actually think it's an OK name... but not a great one.  Therefore, I'm happy to crowdsource the name if people have better ideas.  One person has already suggested "Charm," though I think that may have too many meanings for the least-common one to come through.  Any thoughts?

Maybe Reliquary? It ties in thematically with bishop, evokes the idea of purifying or cleansing (trashing), and it seems in line with Cache (a treasure trove) and Contraband (an item or group of items that are illegal to possess).

Aw man, I wanted to hold onto it for a future card of my own.  I already mentioned it here:

But I will endorse it anyway, for the greater good. :P

I wasn't kidding when I suggested Dragonfruit or Dragon's Fruit. I just think it's neat.

Yeah I thought of that first but Reliquary seemed a bit more in step with Contraband and Cache. Either works!

I'm all for Reliquary. If you want a synonym, Shrine could work. Or Feretory; it can either mean the same thing as Reliquary or a place to store reliquaries.

ha... looking up possible art for "relic" and I stumble into an image that I think could be really good...

Turns out it was the Contraband image used on iso

That seems a little backwards. :o But hey, whatever works.

I actually like "Amulet" best of all these suggestions.  I don't know, something about it suggests that it could be both an item of monetary value and also something that would imbue people around it with powers.

I like relic more than reliquary.

I like your suggestion of Charm from the other thread better than either of these. It captures the vibe of something good happening to others around you.

Maybe even Lucky Charm?

Maybe Sacred Relic? It's worth plenty to you, and causes others to trash their worldly possessions.

How about "Chrism"?  Combining the "C" theme with some idea of purification... not sure about it, but thought I'd throw some idea out there.

Maybe we could just spice up Amulet with an adjective or something.

Crystal Amulet?

Dsell and Kirian posting in the same thread is too confusing... One you should switch your avatar to Sage or something new to make our lives easier.

What if we take eHalcyon's idea, knock off the Amulet part and just call it Crystal?

Posted elsewhere, but something like Golden Idol (or, in keeping with the C theme, Crystal Idol?) makes some sense.

I wouldn't shoehorn it in if it doesn't come naturally.  Crystal Idol is a little strange.  Jade Idol? :P

Maybe you can base its name off the Trevi Fountain, people can throw spare coins in there?

Oh, very well, I've changed to the Apothecary as an avatar.

I like Reliquary and Lucky Charm.  Lots of the others seem a bit forced, and I really don't see a reason to specifically go with the "C" theme.

Phylactery could work too, though it's a bit off the beaten path.

More ideas and I'll put up a poll later on.
