It was a cool fun thing that you got to play with two new Hinterlands cards each day as the previews showed up. I am glad you guys enjoyed that thing in the past. There are cool fun things in the present too, but not that one.

If you had never had that fun thing in the past, you wouldn't be sad not to get it again. Sadly we don't live in that impossible utopia.

Yeah, as much of a bummer as this is (see also: my kneejerk melodrama a couple posts up), I feel compelled to remind myself that Donald X has been pretty dang cool about the whole isotropic thing for all this time and doesn't really owe us jack diddly.  I am also willing to guess that there are probably good reasons we're not getting it again.

We've got the physical version preordered (I like the social aspect of playing IRL as well as the fast competitive action on Isotropic) ...
How have you pre-ordered it? Is it an Australia-specific thing or a local store? I haven't found anyone willing to let me do the same.

No, I just mean we've already ordered it from our favourite local game shop here in Melbourne (on the other side of town about an hours drive from here) and that they will ship straight on to us as soon as they get it in stock, so no, no special Australia only deal....

I'm not saying we Aussies wouldn't be completely deserving of some sort of a special "Great-Southern-Land-Dark-Ages-Deal" ( ;)).... but no.  :)

And as to the rest of the discussion I guess I must agree. My disappointment is based on my self-built-up expectations based on previous goodness. I guess I'd say I am both happy that I get to play Dominion in some form and frustrated that I can't play it in the way it was designed with all 200+ action cards or whatever were originally designed before the game was originally pitched to Rio Grande. I understand the realities of the game publishing business mean that it can't all be release in a great lot.... that reality just doesn't completely save me from the frustration at only being able to play with a certain selection of the already designed cards.

None of this intended in any way to be critical of the esteemed designer of the game - it hardly needs saying given the amount of time we all spend here reading about and thinking about Dominion - but Kudos to you Donald - Dominion is a fantastically balanced game (the result of I can only imagine how much hard work) and the sort of sense of justice which is built into the game (i.e. where players attack cards can't just target one other player) is to be applauded in particular.

Well without further ado bring on the dark age so I stop talk talk talking and recommence playing.

When Hinterlands was previewed, me and my girlfriend played with the blank cards as the previewed ones. So basically everyone that owns the game can try the new cards out. If you've done away with all your blanks, play with a kingdom card that isn't in the kingdom. It isn't that hard, and you get to try the new cards. That's what I'll do on monday. :D

Can I borrow your girlfriend? In all seriousness, I don't know IRL people to play Dominion with so this business about waiting for Goko really sucks for me.

I have recently acquired a girlfriend in order to be able to test new cards and fan cards that I can't play on isotropic.

The sad thing is I'm not 100% kidding.  I'm bringing Dominion to our second date, which is in 2 hours.

Same here, though Dominion time has to compete with med school time.

I tend to show Dominion to prospective boyfriends on the first or second date.  It does help that a lot of gays are reaaallllyyy geeky.

Excellent, but Doesn't put much store in the date itself though, she is already mentioning being 'friends'!

Yeah, I read "Friend Zone" loud and clear.

Once you're in the friend zone it is really tough to get out. Enjoy your new friend and look for a date elsewhere.

Would you rather have a date, or someone to play Dominion with?

I'm actually kinda the one friend zoning her, reminding her we're not exclusive yet and whatnot.  She does call our outings dates. She posts way too many details on facebook every night, so I don't have guilt talking about it on an internet forum.

To clarify, she's not my girlfriend, she's just a girl I've been seeing for a week.  In the less detailed comment I first made I thought it was a reasonable approximation.

Hoping to get more Dominion games out of her Wednesday.

Too good, just too good.

Well now it just sounds like you are using her. Not what most men would use women for, but whatever floats your boat.

You could take that further and say any "friend zone" relationship is one person being used by another because there is an attraction that is not fully mutual.

I think she knows where she stands and everyone's fine.

By the way, what do most men use women for?
Monopoly?  That's not nearly as good.
