I'm not sure why you bought golds on turn 14/15. Wouldn't another vault or duchy make more sense?
It's not obvious because you can't really see the scores in the log, but I think I made the right call. First, notice that there's no +buy so the vault is not going to be useful for $; I was hitting $8 consistently. I bought gold because I had 3 bishops, 2 tunnels, 1 vault. A duchy would have made sense only if there was one province left AND the duchy put him more than 6 behind, neither of which was true. A vault would have made sense if there were still a bunch of provinces left and I thought I could get even more out of my sexy bishops.
Here's the council room log for the rolling scores:

There isn't quite enough context in the quoted section, but if you check the log you see that Dyanks had plenty of spare actions so could have vaulted away duplicates to activate the last Menagerie.
There isn't quite enough context by looking at the turn in the log, but I think he actually made the right call, or at least it didn't matter. He had is deck drawn was guaranteed $8 already, if he had activated menagerie he might have forced his next hand to have a province by reshuffling. Also, no +buy so there's no need to discard lots and try to draw it back up.
I did laugh at Morgrim's post though.
