Get prizes without winning tournaments

One way to do this is via masquerade, and another is when a thief takes a diadem. Any other way? (My understanding is that you can't ambassador one away ).

That's right (same for Black Market cards). Technically during a Possession turn you are not winning the tournament but the possessed player imho.

I am not sure about the thief one, as you have the actually trash the card before you may gain it, which mean there is nothing you can gain?

Thief trashes treasures and then gives you an option to gain any of the treasures it trashed. If you choose to gain them, you gain them from the trash pile. There is no rule that says trashed prizes do not go to the trash pile.

I guess getting either Sabotaged or Swindled doesn't work due to rule restrictions (as with Ambassador)?

That's right - and as it isn't part of the solution I won't spoiler this ;-)
You wold need bridge or princess before Sabo anyway, but the prices are not part of the supply.
You can however swindle prices into curses.
