I've tried playing Dominion with 3 setups of Kingdom cards:
1) Crafted Sets provided with the game.
2) Random Kingdom Cards (this seems popular online).
3) Alternate Pick: Each player gets to choose one kingdom card at a time, until you max out at ten.
I've found the crafted sets to provide the most depth, as there is usually a balance of options, along with inherent counters. Random Kingdom Cards tend to be lopsided, with a "best" strategy usually available. Lastly, alternate pick is interesting, but also tends to be one-directional.
A friend of mine recently came up with a few custom sets, which I played and enjoyed quite a bit:
"Game of Thrones" (Base Game)
Cellar
Chancellor
Moneylender
Remodel
Feast
Spy
Throne Room
Laboratory
Market
Witch
--
Interesting because there is no +2 action card on the board. Only way to play multiple terminals is to TR a +1 Action.
"Band of Thieves" (Base Game)
Cellar
Village
Thief
Militia
Bureaucrat
Remodel
Library
Council Room
Mine
Adventurer
--
This set was more interesting to play than it appears on the board. Heavy money options, but can swing pretty quickly if you nab good treasures with your thieves. Extremely fun with 3-4 players.
Has anyone else crafted any custom sets?
Preferably has:
1) Balanced Strategy
2) Interesting Dynamics
3) Fun to Play
Please include what expansions you need, and what the recommended number of players is.
