I'm positive I misplayed rather egregiously here and only won by winning the split. Some sort of silk road rush seems obvious with this much green on the board, but I'm completely at a loss how to play it.

I don't think you did anything wildly wrong. I probably would have opened Horse Traders/Silver, too. I think I would have gone for Silk Roads a bit earlier, working on winning that split, and then supplementing with Islands, Halls, and Estates when I hit $4, $3, and $2 after the SRs were gone. But, your opponent didn't go for them right away either, so that bought you time. And you did beat him on the split. So yeah, I think you're good!

Although, on Turn 3 you have an extra Buy from HT, and you don't spend it. I would pick up a Copper, since everything you want is cost $5 and below. Free Coppers help your economy here. On that note, I might open HT/Woodcutter instead, count on them not colliding, and put a few extra Coppers in my deck here and there.

As a curiosity, would jester have been extra good on this board with so much green against someone rushing silk roads? There'd be so much green it would be a pretty reliable curser, right? Your opponent used it but not to great effect, which surprises me a bit. Does horse traders really outclass it as a terminal here?

I don't think Jester is all that great here, and especially not early on. The Silk Road deck wants Coppers, so giving out Coppers isn't a punishment at all. Once you have so much Green, the Jester will hurt, but you can kind of ignore Cursing, way more than usual in a game like this. Jester has to give out 4 Curses to be worth more VP to you than a Duchy, and probably more than that, because the Duchy counts for SR points. And junking your opponents deck with Curses just isn't a huge priority, because you don't hurt a deck that only aims for $4 hands very much.

That's true, and not much can stop you from getting to $4 when you have horse traders around. I'm really surprised that your opponent had none, despite having larger hands from labs.

The Labs are beyond useless here.

I agree with that too. But if you're gonna get them, it seems so obvious to pair it with horse traders. With so much green it's basically a terminal gold with no downside and a huge upside in the +buy. Dunno, just surprising that he'd have 2 woodcutters but no horse traders.

Agreed, the opponent certainly made much less use of the board.

I think I prefer the island opening to the horse traders opening, but then I'd insist on shifting to horse traders on second shuffle, a second horse traders and then silk roads. Horse traders > any of the 5s here. Afterwards I agree with all your decisions. Jester is worthless here - the opponent needs a horse traders and a copper in hand to get 4, so cursing does little, copper actively helps, and horse traders reaction is vaguely dangerous (though not really since opponent has horse traders).
