I'm a teetotaler, and can't stand the taste of alcohol.

Root beer though, all over that.

I'll drink the occasional beer, but I think that Dominion goes best with tea.

It's quite enjoyable.

I am aces at this sport. My PR's are quite respectable, both with beer and liquor, and occasionally both.

I'm even competing as we speak!

Axxle, kudos on this extension topic. +1.

It's quite enjoyable.

For the record:

I am a Hops man when it comes to beer. The more, the better. Any Double or Triple IPA is going to be right down my alley.

I enjoy a good Red, and the occasional Brown Ale, but am only so-so on Stouts (It has to be REALLY rich). I generally do NOT like anything that is brewed with any sort of citrus, or Apricot/Cherry/etc. The fruit flavor just doesn't meld well for me.

-Edit- Some of the Irish Milk Stouts are REALLY, REALLY delicious.

I enjoy straight Whiskey, G&T, or any combination of clear liquor + citrus (preference to Lime over Lemon). My Martinis are as dry as they come, with an onion, not an olive.

And for those who don't know: You NEVER shake clear liquor. You'll bruise it and ruin it. So no James Bond in here.

Murphy's Irish Stout is excellent.  One of my favs is Boddington's.

Im on the ciders at the moment ( not literally this moment of course, its 11am!!)

Rekorderlig seems to be the current favourite. Ive gone off lager for the moment and never really been into Ale. Although Vodka +coke/redbull/orange is always good!

I enjoy a good tipple now and then.

My taste in beer tends to run towards stouts and Belgian-style ales: I tend to like dark beers with spicy and roasty flavors the most.  I do like hops but I also want to taste the malt, too.  I do like most beers- pretty much the only things I don't care for are pale lagers (I'd rather it taste like something) and certain wheat beers (some of them taste like banana, which just seems wrong).

Not much of a wine drinker.  I prefer my wine dry when I do have it, which is not that often.

I am getting to be a big fan of cocktails and spirits, too.  My taste in mixed drinks is pretty much opposite to Galzria, in that lemon juice is probably the #1 turn-off for me, and I like my martinis to be recognizably vermouthy.  (Though he is absolutely right about when you should shake and when you shoud stir).  Though to be honest sweet vermouth is much better than dry vermouth, so I tend to drink things like Manhattans and Negronis instead.  As much as I'm not a huge hop-head, I really like bitters in cocktails.  If I'm drinking spirits straight it's probably whiskey; I'd love to get into Scotch someday but I don't have the budget for that now.

Oh I disagree! Taste is very much the driving factor. If I don't enjoy it, I won't drink it. Take Jagermeister for example. Yuch.

I would probably drink ~half as much as I do now if all I was ever allowed to drink was something thats really not my favourite (say jagermeister). However, I dont really LIKE any of the stuff I drink, I just pick the least bad of the options to get drunk. While I prefer to drink better tasting stuff, I dont really drink because I want the test. I want the effect.

I don't drink for the taste of alcohol specifically, but for what other flavors come with the alcohol as a result of fermentation, aging, and infusion.  Getting a buzz is a nice side effect, too, but I don't drink to get drunk.  Outgrew that freshman year of college.

There's a reason vanilla extract is like 40% alcohol- because it's such a good solvent for flavor compounds.

Well I suppose that's more or less what I meant. I drink for the taste, for flavor. Not "alcohol" specifically - which is why my choice in beers is fairly specific.

If I'm out drinking at a club (very rare), MAYBE it's to get drunk and dance/party/grind the night away, but mostly I drink to enjoy the beverage, not the buzz.
