theory, we need a new front page challenge, gain two Colonies in 4 turns. See if anyone can work out to replicate that. I'm mostly amazed that you managed to use every single kingdom card as well. And ended up with Fairgrounds almost worth 6 VPs in 4 turns (you could have course have gained a Fairgrounds/Province instead of a Colony, if you did want 6 VP Fairgrounds for some reason)

...spin-offs are still better for all of the previously cited reasons.
But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

I could have got an 11th card in the Kingdom, but it turned out I didn't need it. The only reason I needed to gain every card in the Kingdom (and one from the Black Market deck) was to get up to 11 different cards in play for the Horn of Plenty to gain Colony.

And ended up with Fairgrounds almost worth 6 VPs in 4 turns (you could have course have gained a Fairgrounds/Province instead of a Colony, if you did want 6 VP Fairgrounds for some reason)

I only have 12 different cards in the deck after Turn 4, since I trashed my only Nomad Camp and Horn of Plenty to get Border Village and Colony.

Suboptimal solution, you have 1 copper left over.



If you look carefully at Turn 4 I also have one spare coin as well. Unfortunately, my solution has no +Buy on Turn 4, so even if I could somehow draw the last Copper, I couldn't buy a Tunnel or something anyway.

1 spare coin was what I had in mind. (And only now I see that "spare copper" it ain't really a spare, cause it is worth $2 because of the Bank).

I've fixed this, but it has reduced the score to only (!) 41 points.

I've now reached 76 points. Improving on this will be much more difficult though, because this solution empties the Catacombs pile, stopping further Procession/Remake/Fortress tricks.

First +1, then read the solution.

If I read the solution right and you replace Squire and Goons with Bridge and Remake with another Procession and some other minor optimization, you can now easily get enough Bridges into play for getting now all Provinces in 4 turns. If I have time, I try it, but I think CC is faster than me.

Improved to over 300 points.  The basic idea is to replace Squire with Band of Misfits, and Remake with Develop.  Crucial is the fact that playing Procession on Band of Misfits gets you a 6 cost (checked the rules)

The solution explodes, to the point where optimizing becomes more or less impossible.  Here's my solution which obtains 308, which is optimized for being easy to understand and verify, rather than being good.  I'm sure there are many avenues for further improvement (playing Procession on Watchtower is probably dumb, for example), but it probably stops being interesting at some point to do so...  the point is that 4th turn goes off!


Kingdom: Hamlet, Watchtower, Develop, Fortress, Nomad Camp, Procession, Catacombs, Band of Misfits, Goons, Peddler

Turn 1: Draw 4 Coppers and Hovel
Play 4 Coppers, buy Nomad Camp.

Turn 2: Draw Nomad Camp, 3 Coppers and Overgrown Estate
Play Nomad Camp and 3 Coppers, buy Watchtower and Hamlet.

Turn 3: Draw Necropolis, (reshuffle), Nomad Camp, Hamlet, Watchtower and Hovel

This sequence puts Watchtower, Duchy, Duchy, Hamlet, Goons, Nomad Camp, Nomad Camp, Goons on the deck (last on top), and does not disturb it otherwise.  It nets 3 actions (and 0 buys).  It also removes 2 Watchtowers, 2 Duchies, 2 Develops, 2 Processions, 2 Catacombs, 2 Nomad Camps, 2 Goons, 2 Band of Misfits, and 1 Hamlet from supply.

We play this sequence three times, except that on the third time, we replace the drawn Develop with a Watchtower.  Then:

Play Procession on Band of Misfits, playing as Procession
- 1st Procession plays Band of Misfits, playing as Procession
-- 1st Procession plays Fortress, drawing Goons and Nomad Camp.  Trash it, putting it in hand.  Gain Band of Misfits on top.
-- 2nd Procession plays Fortress, drawing Band of Misfits and Nomad Camp.  Trash it, putting it in hand.  Gain Band of Misfits on top.
-- Trash Band of Misfits, gain Goons on top.
- 2nd Procession plays Band of Misfits, playing as Procession
-- 1st Procession plays Fortress, drawing Band of Misfits and Goons.  Trash it, putting it in hand.  Gain a Catacombs, trashing and gaining Nomad Camp on top.
-- 2nd Procession plays Band of Misfits, playing as Procession
--- 1st Procession plays Fortress, drawing Nomad Camp and Goons.  Trash it, putting it in hand.  Gain a Catacombs, trashing and gaining Nomad Camp on top.
--- 2nd Procession plays Fortress, drawing Nomad Camp and Hamlet.  Trash it, putting it in hand.  There is nothing to gain.
--- Trash the Band of Misfits, gaining Goons on top.

Play Hamlet, drawing Duchy, discarding 2 Duchies for +1 action, +1 buy.
Play 2 Goons, and Nomad Camp.
Play Watchtower, drawing Watchtower, 2 Goons, 2 Nomad Camps, and Hamlet.
Play Hamlet, drawing Duchy, discarding it for +1 buy.
Play 2 Goons, 2 Nomad Camps. 
Play Watchtower, drawing Duchy, Watchtower, 2 Goons, 2 Nomad Camps.
Play 2 Goons, 2 Nomad Camps. 
Play Watchtower, drawing 2 Duchies, Hamlet, Watchtower, and a Copper.
Play Hamlet, drawing Copper, discarding 2 Duchies for +1 action, +1 buy.

We have 10 Goons out, 25 buys, and $45. 
Thus we can buy 4 Colonies and 21 Copper, gaining 250 VP from Goons.  With 6 Duchies, this gives us 308 Victory points.  And the game ends on piles, with Goons, Catacombs, Band of Misfits, and Procession out.


Edit:  There are some minor issues.  Pointed out and fixed by CC in a later post.

Impressive, but there are a few flaws:
- You gain 11 Catacombs
- You play Band of Misfits as Procession when the Procession pile is empty on 4 occasions, but Band of Misfits can only copy cards in the Supply - the rulebook states it can't copy empty Supply piles.
- You have $46, not $45 (you probably missed $1 from Peddler)
- When you play your first 4 Goons, you should play 4 Nomad Camps, not 3, with them for final part of your solution to work. You should them not draw a Hamlet or Nomad Camp from Watchtower (since they were already in your hand), and not play a Nomad Camp with the next 2 Goons (since you should have already played it). From the following Watchtower, you should also not draw a Watchtower, since you should have one extra Watchtower in your hand anyway.

It seems to me that most of these should be fixable (although fixing them may lower the score slightly), but I haven't had time to try to fix it yet.
