Trusty Steed for the silvers

Can anybody recall a game where both these conditions hold?
1. You used trusty steed for silver
2. You won, but would probably have lost had you not done so.

Bonus points if
3. Bag of gold was available but you specifically chose the steed for the silver.

I can see two situations where it could be useful:

1. Mean cursing games, but if the median card in your deck is worse than silver, how did you get a province and win a tournament?
2. Gardens, but surely buying all the provinces is better.

I also use it really seldom, but it can happen. Sometimes you race for Provinces very early cause of Tournament. Then both players get Duchies and have a clogged deck, while 3-4 Provinces are still left. In this situation it might be useful, as in cursing game which you described on your own. In the same situation I also like the Bag of Gold, sometimes even over cards like Princess/Diadem.

The fact that people far smarter than me chose to include that option means there's probably some nuance that I lost on me.

The Silver ability is quite strong in the right circumstance, and that circumstance isn't all that uncommon when you own Trusty Steed: you have a lead, the Silvers won't ruin your deck, and you're coasting to the end of the game trying to avoid watering down your deck too much while buying green cards (especially Duchies).

It's not the best card ability in the world or anything, but I think it's really cool that it's on the card, and I've used it several times ;D

I've done it several times.
Backdoor Gardens!
Then again, I have a habit of trying to play gardens even when I really shouldn't.

I've mostly used it for Gardens which I mentioned in this thread.
