Standard forum practice I believe

Wait, am I allowed to post in here even though its not night in my Mafia game?! Hehe

Walking by, eHalcyon noticed Ozle conversing at the entrance to one of the more popular joints in town.  However, the word was that this particular bar and lounge only opened its doors to the public after the sun went down.  What was Ozle doing there when it was still so bright out?  Who was he talking to?

Curiosity piqued, eHalcyon approached.  Despite the glaring sun, the world suddenly seemed darker.  Grujah was there, hair frizzled and eyebrows still not grown back from his last crazy experiment.  What was he testing this time?

Close by was Insomniac, though it was hard to recognize him with his face all wrapped up.  Did he fancy himself some sort of ninja?

And there was Galzria, discussing windows of all things!  Was he a thief planning a heist?  Maybe a stained glass enthusiast?

Something foul was afoot, and eHalcyon had no intention of getting involved with such shady characters.  He backed away slowly before this strange company could notice that he had spotted their clandestine meeting...

Why is there no mafia with all this infighting going on over a point counter...?

There's still MIV, MV and MVI going.  BMIII as well, and Resistance II is starting.  And I called hosting the next game already! :P

To be specific, I called the next BM, but I'm tempted to make it a regular M game because I want to see how people deal with the role madness in a serious game.

As mentioned upthread, I would like to host a newbie-friendly mafia game after M-IV ends.  It would use the standard 2-of-4 setup used in M-I and M-II, and player slots will if at all possible go to new players or players who have only participated in 1 mafia game to date.  How to people feel about that running concurrently with eHalcyon's planned role-madness* game?  I'm kinda anticipating there will be very little overlap between the player bases - maybe no more than 3 "experienced" players, assuming enough newbies and near-newbies sign up?

*Incidentally, I fully concur with your NOT labeling it Bastard Mafia.  Let's see some serious role madness up ins.  :)

I would like to be in for the role madness game, and the newbie game, and any other game.

Please! I need to continue my record of participating in 100% of Forum games.

You WILL slip and miss one! And when you do, I'll be right there to catch up to you (having only missed M-I myself).

On that note, I'm more of a newb than Robz, so /inb4Robz.

I had a role madness idea where every role is also incompetent in some way.

Other ideas I'd like to host is one where Mafia chooses stuff, like:

Remove cop from the 2 of 4.  It's just stupid amounts of town power.

I think the amount of forum mafia now is too much. There are 3 current mafia games going on, plus a BM and another misc game!, and they are just causing each other to slow right down, people just dont have the time to read and post in all of them and so they all suffer!

I would probably think we have one normal, one BM and one other going on a time only, otherwise people will need to spend thier whole lives on the forum just to keep up!

I hear you... but on the other hand it (along with doctor) is one of the iconic Mafia roles.  For newbies, might it be best for their first game to include a cop (or at least have a cop as one of the possible roles) so they can get used to thinking about cop (and doctor, and jailkeeper) interactions?

From a pure power-balance perspective I agree and would be inclined to switch Cop with, say, Tracker.  But I am worried Tracker will be a bit on the complicated side for new players.

I think newbie games should just show newbies the ropes to the game.  It doesn't have to be balanced.

Queue up if you die or you can otherwise take another game.

Yeah, and the trouble is, people will sign up before they die just in case they die early, and they dont want to have to wait around for another one.

Which then causes the problem I noted above, too many running about.

Aye aye.  The main reason was just that I doubt it's balanced.  I'm not sure which team would have the advantage though! :P  How about labelling it "Role Madness" and leaving it at that?

Look, if you want to limit anything, there should just be a limit to the number of separate games a player can be in at one time.

Cop shouldn't be an iconic role, because it's a bad role.

Broken setups set a bad precedent because they reward different kinds of play.  No-lynching in follow the cop is just something you can't do in real setups.  etc.

You could keep it from being a bad example of what comes later by making the cop unprotectable so that the setup is less gameable, something that's common in advanced games.  But it makes more sense just to not include the role at all.
