I'm going to go insane if RMM7 doesn't wrap up soon. Preferably with the correct lynch.

Played RL mafia for the first time in a long game. Point one... my wife is amazing at being mafia. 3/3! She rockes. Point two... I had a really, really good game. I knew I was about to be investigated by the cop who had claimed, and who should have been saved by the doc. But my partner and I decided to kill the cop anyways to prevent his investigation. Risky, but it paid off. I then was forced into fake claiming doc and forcing the doc to be mislynched for the win at mylo. I forgot how fun the game was RL!

Although being town wasn't very fun, mafia kept killing me because they knew I played online and were worried that I would find them out.

This is my biggest issue with IRL mafia (or any mafia where the skill level of players varies a ton). If you are town, you don't get to live. If you don't get nightkilled, they know you are mafia because you are still alive.

I've never played IRL and don't even know how it would work.

This is when the mafia has to leave you alive as town and then wifom that you must be alive because you are mafia.  And then when you are actually mafia, you wifom again and say that the mafia just want you to be mislynched!

I've never played IRL and don't even know how it would work.

It requires a different sort of strategy. It's very, uh, frantic. Everyone gets mad at each other. Everyone kills me first because I yell the loudest.

Could someone give me a good link to the rules of IRL mafia?

They don't talk at night, and someone will say (while everyone is closing their eyes), "mafia wake up, choose who you want to kill" and they point to someone.  Same for the others.

oh, well then I assume it is always an open setup... From what Yuma said it sounded like he talked with his scumbuddies.

No talking at night, unfortunately. And fewer choices other than "Who do you want to target" because it would be annoying to have to ask, say, a joat what he wants to do when he couldn't speak. Maybe if the group knew sign language.

The set up doesn't have to be fully open. Just have extra role cards that don't get handed out. You could probably do full hidden by having the moderator take each player aside, one by one. But that's too slow.

Or have the cards say "you are a such-and-such, have this ability, etc."  Also, I one time had a role irl that could choose.  He held up one or two fingers then pointed at someone.

That's cool.

I just think it's harder for the Mod to track. I usually mod and it is very easy to forget that, hey, he was jailed! I've taken to using pen and paper.

The other thing is that it actually matters the order you do things in. At night, you pretty much have to call on jk first so you know if your can give results to the rest.

Oh, if your setup isn't full open, the Mod still has to call on missing roles. Not to mention he has to be careful about how he stands or he might give away the general location of a role based on where he directs his voice.

How do you do the voting IRL?

We do a preliminary vote where if enough people vote the person being voted is given a chance to respond and present a counter argument... after that we have a final vote. If that player doesn't receive enough votes, he can't be lynched the rest of that day.

I was able to get out of being lynched after having enough for a preliminary vote because of my convincing argument.

But I think that is more of a house rule than anything else, but we like it.

In our group, successful moderating is considered an art form. You have to pace around the whole group at night, deliberately pause for actions longer than necessary, impeccably remember orders, etc.

It could be semiopen and even closed if moderated correctly, and making nights a bit longer than needed.  Basically the mod asks for each possible team to wake up one after the other even if there might not be anyone in the team (mason, mafia, werewolves, etc).  Then he asks each person individually to wake up and do an action if they have one.  Its easier if the mod has a laptop or something.
