Resignation bug

So, I'm playing a game with Stef, and after he sat for about 15 seconds, (he'd sat maybe a minute or two at some other points earlier), it gave me the option to resign him.
Naturally I didn't take it, but...

Well, I played him 20 games yesterday. Lost the first 5 (ugh!), then he went to supper, came back and we played 15 more - he won the first 2 here as well, then split the next 10 5-5 before I won the last 3. Hey, wait, I thought I'd lost the last one (checks game log...) um... so he definitely had me crushed, then on his last turn buys up a bunch of stuff, the log says he DC'ed, which I don't remember, and then...
All Provinces are gone.
WanderingWinder wins!

So confused....

So why did you resign me?

We both know that 3 minutes didn't elapse.

-Stef- is indeed really good, but but but.... from our games (5-11-1) I remember a lot games where shuffle got him win. I don't think he is THAT good, he is just running good ATM. Variance is huge at top levels.

No, in your case, you were playing extremely slowly. And I do believe it had been 3 minutes there. Indeed, this bug yesterday I only saw for a about a second, much like how you will sometimes see it as 'waiting for reactions' from someone when there are no reactions available. Maybe it wasn't even an option, actually.

As for your second post... I really don't understand why you feel like degrading everyone's skills. You know what, almost EVERY game of dominion is decided, to some extent by the shuffle. Unless you're playing some really really terrible strategy, you can get enough shuffle luck to win, you can get enough shuffle luck to lose. What you have to look at is how well they played. You know, sometimes you can get lucky when you played better. Sometimes you can get unlucky when you played better, and the other player doesn't notice so much. Instead of complaining so much about luck, why don't you give us some examples, showing us and explaining how you played better. Then we might believe you. Because right now, it just looks like whining, whether it is or not.

I played slowly and and you know what was the reason. Same situation has been before and i have said ''sorry'' for that and you were understanding and said that it is fine because situation required some thoughts. Don't know why you resigned me without warning... i guess something clicked in your head like ''Oh, YES!''.

Also I clearly know that 3 minutes didn't elapse. My timing isn't that bad and it felt like i made bigger pauses during that game.

Anyway stop acting like an actress, everyone knows you are capable of resigning and no need to write some cheesy line like "Naturally I didn't take it, but..."

And i have given examples and my reasons before (against my games vs. -Stef-) and you clearly know that.  What a dumb advice. And i don't care what other people think and i don't care if you or someone else believes me or not.

Capable of resigning? I don't know what you mean like that. I don't know if 'you' is referring to me personally, or to people on isotropic in general. I don't know if 'capable' means that it's possible to do so at some point, it's possible to do so early, or I'm some kind of morally depraved person who wants to grind other people's faces to the ground any chance I get. By resigning, I'm going to assume you mean forcing someone else to resign, not actually resigning yourself, but you didn't make that totally clear either. In any event, I'm really not sure what you're trying to convey here.

Look, I mean, I'm not sure that it had been 3 minutes in your game - I don't keep my eyes on my watch all the time, so it might have been like two and a half minutes. Certainly it was quite a long time. And I trusted the interface to not offer me the option until it had been quite long. The big thing is that you're playing extremely slowly, taking several minutes per move, and then continuing to do so over and over. You played slowly and I know the reason? Because you're trying to make the game last forever, dragging it out? Certainly, there wasn't THAT much to think about. And I can't know if you've left your computer or have connection problems. Generally I tell my opponents when I'm going to go into a long think. You made no such remark. I mean, a few days later you do the same thing. Wait two plus minutes, buy a copper, wait another two plus minutes, buy another copper, wait at least another minute, make your move. Seriously, that's terribly un-fun.

So, this ARTjoMS guy, is he like the Phil Helmuth of Dominion? Very smart, very obnoxious, but deep down a fellow with a golden heart....??

Ha, Phil Helmuth seems like quite a good comparison to me.  I'd say I see some similarities to Mike "the Mouth" too.

"If it weren't for luck, I'd win every time"?
I don't know. To be fair to ARTjoMS, which I try to do, he actually says that he played poorly/got lucky sometimes too. I mean, not often enough, but this is somewhat natural. My main beef isn't that so much as *how* he says it, his vociferousness.

Statistically, after 17 games the luck should have balanced out a bit; I'm extremely inclined to believe that this is a self- serving bias on your part.

Hi everyone,

my first post on these forums :)

I'll try to write something more interesting in another thread, but this one really was about a bug. And although bugs are not a good topic for discussion, fixing it would be great.

I remember I won the last game against WW, finished the last turn, saw the 'You win' thingy.
We chatted for a minute or two afterwards, and then I clicked 'exit' (not return, what I usually do).
And now the logs report it as though I resigned.
I have no clue wether its reproducable, but then again, I'm not really willing to try extensive testing on this one ;)

And about ARTjoMS... I'll just play an occasional game against him. Those games I will probably enjoy less then average, but so be it. Live & let be.

How to get top players to post on forum.dominionstrategy.com:

1) Make a post about a game with them, preferably with their name in the title.
2) Wait for them to Google stalk themselves.
3) Win.
