A little experiment. Hope it's fun. I'd like to create a quiz for the main blog, but there aren't any free quiz creation options. Anyone have suggestions?

2 identical audio and visual advertisements playing at the same time - offset in time by 0.5 seconds.  I like dominion, I like quizzes, but I'm never going to that website ever again.  Had to quit after question 3.

Kinda fun. I was almost tricked somehow by the Mountebank question, but I managed a 10/10. Didn't notice any too annoying ads.

10/10

I was a little surprised that it said for a couple of questions only about 50% had answered right.

Fun quiz though :)

Many of the questions are strategy questions that require much more context than you supply.

I would have thought that Moat/Silver would be the best opening if an opponent got an early Mountebank?

9/10 - Nice quiz, very fun.

Flubbed out on the Conspirator question. Curse you, Peddler, for working a different way!

That might very well be the case, but the question wasn't what is the overall best open but which one is best out of the ones provided.

So you scored poorly and going to blame it on the questions ? ;)

No, seriously, I think the answers are going to be true in the huge majority of contexts.

If there are also cheap Villages out, and there often are, I'd often take Wharf over Lab in the Tac/Secret Chamber example.  I'd rather spend the couple turns to build a larger, more durable double-Tac deck than one that just settles for $8 while it can.

Yeah, guess which question I got wrong.

(ed: of course, if there aren't Villages then Lab is stronger and the question is right.  But I do think the answer to this one is not so clear-cut.)

Dangit! Trader/silver is better than Smithy-silver for Duke/Duchy? Really?

Well, now I know.

Yeah the Lab question is definitely the one which is very often going to be not correct. I think there were one or two others which were kinda iffy too.

If cheap Villages were available, wouldn't it be faster to just build a Wharf engine without Tac? Maybe that's just my "can't get double Tact to ever work" bias.

(Not actually relevant to question because of the Tactician opening specification.)

I want to say that assuming cheap Villages are available is assuming extra information, but assuming there aren't any villages might as well be the same thing.

I completely agree with your choice of answers.   ;)

Tactician/Lab was the one that I spent longest on.  I think I'd prefer a Tactician over a Lab at that point in a real game.

Well, now I know.
I think Trader explosion is generally good in low-costing VP rush strategies.
After you've exploded a couple of Estates and/or Silvers, you can easily hit $5 for a long time and possibly the occasional $8.

Also in high-costing VP rush strategies.  <3 Trader.

I fell down on Question 9, in that I thought about stopping buying Silvers. Not saying the right answer is wrong, but is there any evidence re: this?

Reason that Silver can be a problem in Colony games is that 5 Silvers don't get you a Colony.
But, with cards that increase hand-size like Wharf, you don't mind having Silvers.
At least that's the logic, I've run no simulations to see what little difference it makes if you buy a Silver before your last reshuffle or not.

The simulator shows the win rate of a Big Money Wharf strategy will always go down if it stops buying Silvers in a Colony game.

You never get to the point in a real game where you have SO many silvers that this actually becomes a problem (maybe with some really really really heavy duty trader action?). If you do, you can at least province every turn.
