Simulation Tournament (Village Square)

The challenge is to find a script that wins the most matches against other competitors only referencing three kingdom cards and basic cards. The chosen kingdom cards must come from base set Dominion, Cornucopia, or be one of the following promotional cards: Stash, Walled Village, Envoy. The bane card for the young witch is the village and all scripts may reference the village in addition to the other three kingdom cards.

- Competition is to be run on Geronimoo's simulator (currently v 1.2.0).
- 2 player games only.
- No colony. No platinum. No potion.
- Tournament prizes can be referenced freely.

You can set the starting hand in the simulator by clicking the start state tab and, for example, adding a line for the start state of "Copper, Copper, Copper, Copper, Estate" and the starting draw deck as "Copper, Copper, Copper, Estate, Estate". If you are using this feature then tick shuffle draw deck and make sure you do start with the required 7 copper and 3 estates. Any script without this feature will have a random starting hand.

Please send entries to DG through the Dominion Strategy Forum mail. Closing date for entries May 15th. Each person is allowed only one entry to this competition. Please title your scripts using your forum name and kingdom cards.

The entries will be run in a league against each other. In each league game two points will be awarded to the script with the higher win rate, or 1 point each if the win rates differ by less than 1%. The overall winner will be the script with the most points. The tiebreaker will be highest aggregate win rate in the league. I will also declare a best newcomer as someone who didn't submit an entry to my pairs tournament. The prizes are ... nothing. It's all for fun.

To be clear, when you say prizes can be referenced freely... you mean that they don't count toward our limit of 3?

Prizes do not count towards the limit of 3, nor do basic supply piles like gold, curses, provinces, etc.

"The village" here means Walled Village?

The young witch bane really is just the village card from the Dominion base set. Every purchase statement for a young witch must set the village as the bane card.

Oh OK, I was confused by the wording "the village" instead of "Village". (In hindsight, WV couldn't be the bane anyway since it is $4...)

I think it's funny that you chose Cornucopia as one of the two sets to choose from, considering you can only reference 3 Kingdom cards and Cornucopia is the expansion with the theme of variety in your deck. Not saying that it's a bad choice - I can see why you picked it, with very few of its cards being used in other bot tournaments.

Can we check if an opponent has bought a Young Witch if we don't buy Young Witch ourselves?

Any card you reference counts towards the limit, even if the script will never buy it. It is a fair question though and I did consider allowing it.

I have a feeling metagaming is going to play a large role here... hmmm, do I enter my best overall deck, or the deck that counters it..... interesting

There's unfortunately been only one entry to this competition. Does anyone have any feedback? Was there too much uncertainty, not enough variety, or not enough reward for any time invested?

I found this a very interesting challenge, so very surprised not more people entered.

I found it a little bit hard to come up with something which beats some very standard BM variants...

I just figured it'd involve optimizing a Gardens strategy, probably involving Workshop. I know I'm definitely not going to win when the deciding factor is who better optimizes a Gardens rush. :)

Well congratulations to Geronimoo for putting in the only entry I suppose. If anyone wants to have a play around for themselves they might want to look at

- a strong garden script (there is at least one)
- tournament scripts (there are a lot of options and optimizations)
- non-tournament province scripts
- different attack cards

Chancellor/Stash is pretty good, and beats most things without discard attacks.
Not sure what the strongest garden script is. But this seems the other most likely strong contender.
Cursers will really hurt most everything else.
Tournament... doesn't seem to be doing enough?
I guess you can maybe put together a big council room engine to punish gardeners, if the best garden strategy doesn't have villages.
