multiple +buys +2 coins

We're totally new to Dominion, and we only have the basic set at this point.
In our last game the following situation came up:
I played 1 festival, 1 festival, 1 woodcutter
so, apart from the actions, I have +1 buy, +1 buy, +1 buy, I also have 3x +2 coins showing. And I hold a silver.

Question:
can I apply the 6 gold discount to each buy action, ending up with, say 3 golds @ a cost of 6 plus 1 province by spending my silver
OR do I get 4 buys but only a total of an extra 6 buying power from the 3 cards to be spread across the total purchases
OR can I only apply a +2 [discount] on each of my 3 extra buys as my wife suggested as another possibility.

We didn't manage to find anything in the rules that cleared the matter up decisively.

The Festivals and Woodcutter provide you with "virtual" coin totaling $6. And the Silver is $2. So you have $8 to spread across 4 possible buys. You do NOT have $6 toward each buy.

So, you can buy one Province with that amount of money. Or, you could buy a Gold for $6, and something costing up to $2. Remember, also, that Coppers are free (though you usually don't want to buy them, except in special cases).

Make sense?

You can only spend your money once. :)

At the buy phase, you just tally up all the coins from the cards and the treasures in play and you can spend it on any number of buys.
You could buy 1 card for $8, 2 for $4 each, 3 for $4 $2 and $2 or even 4 for $2 each, your choice.

You don't have to spend all your money and you don't have to use all your buys.

It's not a discount, you just get some extra money toward the total amount of money you can spend in the buy phase.

Ok, thanks, got it.

I had been thinking in terms of Puerto Rico quarries ... thinking of them as one-off virtual coins that don't go into the discard changes the perspective alltogether.

They do go into the discard.

During the clean up phase. Not straight away.

Indeed—i.e., at the same time as the treasure cards do.

It's probably worth noting that there ARE cards that give the kind of "discount" you were thinking about -- Bridge, Intrigue, Highway and Quarry.  It is worded as card cost reduction in Dominion.

Well, Bridge is in Intrigue, but the other cost reduction card is actually called Princess ;)

@OP - Just FYI, Quarry is in Prosperity, Princess* is in Cornucopia, and Highway is in Hinterlands.

*a special Prize card (instead of 10 of it, there's only 1 of it, and you acquire through the kingdom card Tournament)

edit: Also...

We didn't manage to find anything in the rules that cleared the matter up decisively.

FWIW, I think the following from the rulebook is pretty clear:

Quote from: Dominion Rulebook, page 8, section "Buy Phase"
For example, if Tyler has +1 Buy and 6 coins provided
by two Gold cards, he can buy a Cellar costing 2, placing it face-up
in his Discard pile. Then, he can buy a Smithy with the remaining
4 coins and place that face-up in his Discard pile. If he wants to
use all 6 coins to buy one card, he can buy a Copper (for free) with
his second Buy or not buy a second card. Players do not have to
use any or all of their Buys.

I think we should refrain from confusing the new player any further...

Yeah, I think people have the bad habit of pointing out all the exceptions to the rules and  all the various places the rules are weird, when the question is about the straightforward case. It's fun to speculate about all the places where the rules actually end up working a little like someone's misunderstanding of them, but not necessarily helpful for a newbie. Though maybe I'm wrong on that.
