Wordle led to Quordle, where there are four words to be guessed.
So Dominion Cardle leads to Dominion Quardle!

Four cards at once? Not quite - a bit more interactive.

• Each player picks a card: In Quordle, there are four words to be identified. Here, there are many cards to be identified - each other player has picked one.
• Choose your own properties for scoring: When you pick a card, you should also choose 5 properties that you will use for scoring. See next post for some suggestions.
• One guess per day: Each day you may guess a card. Then each other player (when they get round to it) will score your guess against their card, using their chosen properties.
• Score-and-guess: Before making a new guess, you must score everyone else's guesses against the card you picked.
• The game rolls on: When someone has identified your card, say well done and pick a new one.

I think it will feel like Quordle, where your guesses are contributing to finding several different words/cards at once. But once it is rolling, there will hopefully always be cards at different stages - some "almost complete" and some fairly new. So in your single guess each day there should be a card that you have a good chance of identifying, which should be quite satisfying I think.

Some clarifications:

• Official cards only, and no landscapes (for now).
• When you pick a card, try to avoid anything anyone has guessed recently.
• When you pick a new card, you can stick with the same scoring properties you used last time, or change them.
• You can score other people's guesses more than once a day if you like (and that might be helpful to get the game started), but you can't make more than one guess per day.
• You can join the game any time. Just announce that you've picked a card, announce your properties for scoring and make a guess to try and identify the other players' cards.

Properties for Scoring

When you pick a card, you also need to choose 5 properties of it. You will use these properties for scoring everyone else's guesses against your card.

Here are some properties which probably work ok. Choose 5 of these, or make up your own:

• Cost - the card's cost (decide how you'll handle debt, potions, overpay etc)
• Handsize - your handsize after playing it from a normal starting 5-card hand (decide how you'll handle unplayable cards and cards that play other cards)
• Coins and Coffers - how many Coins and Coffers it gives you (decide how you'll handle things like Counterfeit and Philosopher's Stone)
• Actions and Villagers - how many Actions and Villagers it gives you
• Deckbuilding - how it changes what cards belong to you - gain, trash, exile from supply, return, exchange etc
• Interaction - the card's effect on other players, or player interaction more generally
• Expansion - the set(s) that the card is in (decide how you'll handle base cards and promos)
• Types - the card's types
• Copies - number of copies of the card in a 4-player game

For each property, you'll score blue if it is correct, orange if it is in some way correct or grey if it is not correct.
Often it is a bit subjective. Try to be generous with blues, and helpful with oranges.

What do people think about categories for scoring?

Do they need to be precisely defined, or will it work with things being a bit open to interpretation, as in the current Cardle games?

Precise definitions can get tricky quite quickly. Simple categories like Cost and Expansion are probably good. But we would need to define some more interesting ones too.

Also I've given up on the idea of standardised properties for scoring. I think it is not feasible to come up with properties which are universal enough and yet simple enough. So let's try with decide-your-own properties.

You can score that if you want to, but no need to because like you say you only joined the game after that.

I don't want to make it hard for someone to join the game if there are already lots of guesses by the time they join. So you only need to score things that are guessed after you join.

I've been wondering whether I needed to say "don't guess your own card", but your idea is better - score your own guesses. Then we don't need to worry about who guessed what.

So I realized after only 3 or 4 guesses into this, the card I picked was far from unique based on the 5 categories I selected.  A few guesses later, I realized that "Expansion" would probably have been the best extra category (maybe to replace "Payout" or "Types"), but since it had started, I would let it play out and stop it once we reached any that ended up all green.

I was shocked it took so long.  It was convenient that 2 or 3 of the selected cards were village-variants, so we basically ran the list of different-cost village cards... except we skipped $4.  But all the guesses were directed at other cards, seemingly, not so much directed at my card.  So now that we've finally looped back to a $4 village...

Definitely wasn't the card I had initially thought of.  But if I did retro-actively go back and change my cards to include "Expansion", then Gear would have been green.  And it wouldn't have taken much time at all to find a village-variant in Adventures.  So my original card was Port.  And in hindsight, I believe the following could have all ended up full-green: Port, Farming Village, Fortress, Wandering Minstrel, probably Blessed Village, maybe Hideout, Mountain Village, Hostelry, Walled Village.

So point goes to fang.

I don't have another card yet... busy for the next day or so.  When I post my next guess some time tomorrow, I'll start my next card (so any guesses between now and then will not count toward my eventual card selection).

You all had villages lol, so the list for mine was pretty big by the time y’all circled back to it. With yours I was wondering why all the costs were still red up until the recent $4 guesses, and it finally occurred to me that your list started right after Silk Merchant

Now I’m aiming for Jack’s again unless something opportunistic happens.

I asked this same question in the Cardle thread:
For “payout” have people been judging… • how close it matches to your card on each and all of the items • how close the sum of all items is to the total of your card (example: Monument = 3) • using an unknown method for us to discern?
Personally, I’m doing more of a gut-check on if it’s in the same vein or not as my card with regards to the listed items (coins/coffers, +vps, buys, favors). It gets a green if it’s equivalent, or near enough, and orange if it kinda/sorta does a similar thing.

I'm judging payout to be green if all of coins, coffers, buys, favors and VPs are exactly right. Orange means at least one element matches exactly, or overlaps if there are multiple possibilities. And I'm allowing coins/coffers to be interchangeable when looking for orange.

I'm rather lost trying to figure out your card vidicate.
For "Copies" are you assuming 4-player game, or something else? Also, are you including landscapes and if so would "Copies" be 1 for most of them, or something else?
For "Cost" would you give orange if the cost has an * ? Eg Princess would be orange for cost if your card was a Ruin?

My conclusions so far:
- Copies is not 1, 5, 10 or 12.
- Cost is not 0, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 9.
- Payout involves Coins/Coffers and probably doesn't involve Buys or VP.
- Illustrator's Initials include L and either A or D (probably D).

What could it be?
- Shelters (4 copies, cost 1) - none of them appear to work for Payout or Initials.
- $2 Heirlooms (4 copies) - none of them appear to work for Initials.
- Cards in rotating piles (4 copies) - only Town Crier has a cost that could work, but doesn't work for Handsize or Initials.
- Castles (2 copies of some) - don't work for Initials.
- Imp (13 copies, cost 2) - doesn't work for Payout or Initials.
- Ruins (0-10 copies) - doesn't work for Cost.
- All other non-standard size piles have some cost that I have ruled out, I think.

Yup! I was trying to do a tricky one, but not *that* tricky, lol. Sorry about the Danner/Lemmer thing; it’s Lemmer in all the physical and digital “copies” of Oasis. Although if the “D” was relevant, I would have done orange/green for it as appropriate. (And if you hadn’t already gotten my card, I would have cleared this up after seeing your comments.)

So yeah, I was like “he must have a lock on ‘L’, and just needs to look through the illustrator list for cards with weird 4-player copies”. The other funny thing is I would have unwittingly given it away once I judged Villa. I was only focused on your card with that guess, and didn’t even check the illustrator That brings up a separate dilemma I had. There were reasons to judge Villa as either orange or red for “payout”, based on previous cards Grand Market and Farmers’ Market. In the end (not that it matters now) I decided that if I did it red, then that would signal my card had exactly $2 payout. (*None of the cards so far had a naked $2 payout, I realized. *Farmers’ Market was ‘red’ mostly because it had too many payout types and only narrowly overlapped with my card, and I didn’t want to be too generous and possibly throw people off.)

I am struggling with your card, @fang. You’ve graded “payout” consistently, right? It can’t be buys because Princess. It’s 1 (or variably 1) coin/coffer per Villa. And Opulent Castle could mean that it’s sometimes 2 coin/coffer, but it could also just mean that sometimes there’s no payout. For now I’m ruling out any amount over 2 per the other guesses. I may be slightly misinterpreting Villa and/or your card is some kind of “choose” card, but that still is taking me to dead ends.

Side note, nothing to do with above: I’m not a fan of doing landscapes, unless the categories can reasonably apply to it—“types” would be a good one so that the person can rule out Action, Treasure, Victory, Night to determine it’s not a card (Curse and Hovel notwithstanding). Also need to be careful of referencing it in a way that would make it have to be a card (obvious example—using the word “card”).

Yeh, what exactly I'm counting as orange for "Payout" might be slightly different this time than last time - it depends a bit on the card I've picked. I think my scoring of all guesses for this card is consistent and makes sense given what the card is.

@infangthief, Yeah for Fishing Village what tripped me up was I thought Payout would be treated the same as Handsize and Actions; what results do you get on-play/immediately. The way you did it was totally legit though, and all the clues made sense once I finally caught on (though like I said, Opulent was barely orange lol).

I might forget a couple which is why I didn't try to list them, but tokenables includes anything that can get a +, and also cost reduction (-2 cost token) trashing (trashing token), setting aside (Inheritance token), put on X mat, gain a Curse (embargo token - I forgot about this one in my last post, so witch and moat arent the same) - basically a subset of mechanics but determined by what the card does rather than by what words are on the card so that it's no longer the case that all Actions are orange.
