Hi folks,

Has anyone seen ^_^_^_^ around? Can't seem to get a reply to set up a match.

He hasn't logged in since the April 1, but I wouldn't worry yet. He's usually pretty active.

RisingJaguar beat me, Brando Commando 5-2.

Game 1: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/04/game-20120404-183406-efcc9502.html
RJ 26, BC 30

A classic Minion-off; RJ goes Swindler, I go islands and win by 4.

Game 2: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/04/game-20120404-185051-4605dd8a.html
RJ 45, BC 38

More minions, but this time with Horse Traders; I try to Upgrade for efficiency but RJ takes it.

Game 3: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/04/game-20120404-185657-b76fe936.html
RJ 35, BC 23

Similar strategies, but I go for Harems over Gold and lose.

Game 4: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/04/game-20120404-192145-6d0e55dd.html
RJ 28, BC 26

I swindle his province to screw myself on the last turn... (#facepalm)

Game 5: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/04/game-20120404-190845-abb3258f.html
RJ 19, BC 11

First turn probably helped me get to $8 faster, but I tried to leverage my advantage to build my deck instead of just getting the provinces...and pay for it when he three-piles.

Game 6: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/04/game-20120404-194609-7bfc8996.html
RJ 41, BC 27

A torturer/Ghost ship showdown -- with 5/2 I went GS, he went Torturer. The only other big difference I remember is that he upgraded a Torturer to a gold mid-late game.

Game 7: http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/04/game-20120404-194609-7bfc8996.html
RJ 44, BC 65

He went for Stewards early on, presumably to counteract Mountebank, and indeed my 3+ Mountebanks didn't bury him, but I got to Gold and Platinum faster and wound up prevailing.

RisingJaguar was super gracious and we had some good analysis post-game. I look forward to playing him again and good luck to him in the rest of the tournament.

ignorantmen 3-4 Axxle (6 match points - 8 match points).

ignorantmen 36 - Axxle 33: A Baron/Duke/Hoard game.  I think I messed up some buys, e.g. Turn 15 should have been a province, not Duke/Estate.  Interesting game that I don't get to play often though.
ignorantmen -2 - Axxle 28: Both of us went for a Torturer engine, my Salvager was the key difference here though.
ignorantmen 37 - Axxle 68: A Mountebank/Colony game.  ignorantmen makes a suboptimal choice of getting some throne rooms over silver and I'm able to get golds and plats a lot faster.  Interesting dynamics between Mountebank, Forge, and Masquerade.
ignorantmen 39 - Axxle 55: BMX Envoy beats a Border Village/Bridge engine.
ignorantmen 46 - Axxle 36: A Tactician/Peddler game.  I blow a 5/2 start by not buying a second Tac early enough.  Turn 5 should have been a Tac/Oasis, not Peddler/Peddler.  I also failed to realize how good Baron would be before it was too late.
ignorantmen 29 - Axxle 39: A very fastly played game (timewise).  One of the first games I've really used Explorer.
ignorantmen 49 - Axxle 48: A very strange Mountebank game.  Fairgrounds was on the table but so were a lot of 5 cost cards.  I ended up with 14 instead of 15 different cards, one market instead of a Duchy would have done it.  My Pearl Diver actually did a lot this game, bringing up two Mountebanks and a Gold from the bottom of the deck, but that luck wasn't enough to overcome my incompetence.

7 pretty fun games, although luck played a factor in some of them I enjoyed them.  Good luck in the rest of the tournament Ignorantmen!

....
Quick comments about each game.
1. Minions, nothing special here really.
2. Minions with horse-traders, a bit more interesting.  Upgrade made late game tactics better for him but 3 gold takes it.
3. Swindler game where I hit everything.
4. Oh swindler again where I hit everything
5. Very fun engines built around conspirator, ironworks, great hall, warehouses.  He gets the lead with more engine parts but neglects provinces a little too long.  Probably hurt that I got grand market first even though his deck was slimmer.
6. http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201204/04/game-20120404-193719-20589008.html The real main difference is that I have a lot more mining villages.  Engines never really take off because Mining village is really expensive! Vanilla village is probably better for the engine.
7. Yeah I missed out on mountebacks so to compensate, I decide to just steward it up. To compensate that, I go shanty towns... Can you say horrible?

All in all, a fun set which games were a bit simple (only one engine) BUT I thought every end game except the last was fantastic.  Critical decisions made all the time near the end.

PS.  Hooray to no masquerades.

My take on games with Axxle:

I think I whined more in these games about luck than I normally do. Sorry to Axxle about that. But I do see Intrigue as having more swingy cards than the other sets--and we didn't even use Swindler
ignorantmen 36 - Axxle 33: I only got one Hoard and I thought that was going to hurt me, but Upgrade ended up being an ok buy when I didn't hit $6 the second time.
ignorantmen -2 - Axxle 28: His Salvager was key in getting Villages and Torturers together but I had some terrible luck. We both had 5 Torturers and 5 Villages but mine were never in the same hand at the same time until turn 16. And the game ended on 17...
ignorantmen 37 - Axxle 68: Throne Room was not a good buy here. I really didn't know what I was doing in this game.
ignorantmen 39 - Axxle 55: This was a classic case of a stupid early buy dictating the rest of the game for me. I really didn't want that bridge on turn 3 but once I bought it was I was sucked into engine building and once I was behind got sucked into Duchy/Duke.
ignorantmen 46 - Axxle 36: A Tactician/Peddler game.  I owe this victory to Coheed who last round introduced me to Double Tactician and beat me twice with it. Needless to say I was pleased to see it after a week of practicing with it.
ignorantmen 29 - Axxle 39: A very fastly played game (timewise).  Again, I was little annoyed that my Tributes didn't hit $4 and didn't get played after turn 9... A stupid Nobles buy drew one dead and Axxle flipped my other with his own Tribute.
ignorantmen 49 - Axxle 48: Lucky to win this. Axxle played better than me but just miscounted on Fairgrounds. I'll take the two points though.

Great games with a better opponent than me. When he won, he won big. When I won, I narrowly squeaked out a victory. I was a little bummed that Conspirator never showed up, but very thankful Minion stayed away.

Thanks for the games.

Set Results: A_S00 2 wins: NinjaBus 5 wins.

Game 1: A_S00 53, NinjaBus 47
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120405-180334-46a46abe.html
There is hoard, hamlets and great halls on the board, so I open coppersmith in hopes of grabbing an early hoard for gold. However, it misses the shuffle and falls flat. A_S00 manages to buy out the provinces before I can catch up on colonies.

Game 2: A_S00 40, NinjaBus 24
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120405-181053-6ac90c2f.html
A_S00 plays double jack with some other cards in there, I go for torturers/bridges. My megaturn doesn't pan out, and the steady jack each turn ignored the torturing. I clearly wasn't torturing the right amount, I either needed more to start landing curses, or ignoring the card completely.

Game 3: A_S00 27, NinjaBus 33
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120405-181534-f72b0a69.html
A minion game, I go for upgrades before the minions, and great halls after my opening silvers. The end results is a leaner deck and the ability to play my 4 minions quickly. The great halls actually ended up deciding this one.

Game 4: A_S00 24, NinjaBus 32
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120405-182208-4b550b6f.html
A swindler heavy game with chapel, not too much to say other than being stuck with 3 stewards when your only +action is tribute is unfortunate for A_S00.

Game 5: A_S00 26, NinjaBus 42
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120405-183241-b9960247.html
A game with masquerade and torturers, I got an early thinner deck by ignoring torturer and going double masq, and in the end it pays off.

Game 6: A_S00 7, NinjaBus 21
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120405-184137-5077c65f.html
This game ended on piles, minions and great halls(partially due to swindler) empty early. A_S00 attempts to catch up with cities, but due to the number of pawns bought earlier it is easy for me to empty the pile with a lead. I did get a lucky swindle of an upgrade on turn 5, which probably allowed a much easier game for me than normal.

Game 7: A_S00 31, NinjaBus 39
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120405-184856-66685bea.html
An interesting game with 2 strategies, I open bureaucrat / wishing well vs. A_S00 going for a conspirator chain with pawns and highways. With lots of non-terminals to help out, it was certainly possible. However, without any early trashing or card draw it never really took off. Late game was close, as A_S00 had the potential to buy multiple victory cards at once should he get a lucky draw, where I was stuck at 1 per turn. Since I had no chance to win a duchy standoff, I ignored the PPR and it paid off. (Based on the log, I actually won by a lucky wish. Close game!)

Here's the result of the week 2 match between Duck Sauce/Nicki Menagerie and I.

Dsell: 5 wins, Nicki Menagerie: 2 wins

Game 1: Dsell 19, Nicki Menagerie 14
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201205/03/game-20120503-120549-be3b9436.html
Ironworks/great hall/crossroads rush. I'm not the best at these, but all the pieces were there for a super fast rush. I think extra ironworks early helped me.

Game 2: Dsell 34, Nicki Menagerie 34
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120503-121313-8f853e56.html
I went straight up Masq/BM (2nd masq might have sped the game up?), while NM was going for a lot more pieces. NM accidentally tied it, and I won on turns.

Game 3: Dsell 34, Nicki Menagerie 35
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120503-122322-2cf0da18.html
I did boring old minions, but despite having an unfortunate envoy, NM pulls out the win by a point.

Game 4: Dsell 39, Nicki Menagerie 44
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201205/03/game-20120503-123456-30378115.html
Torturer/bazaar. I went early shanty towns, which was probably a mistake. Not good with torturer usually, but they didn't seem too bad here...I think NM had a more focused strategy though.

Game 5: Dsell 28, Nicki Menagerie 26
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120503-124256-58c64d2c.html
Minions again, but this time not boring! I lose the minion split 4/6, but trashing from lookout really shines and makes a difference here. Caravans also come through for me in a big way. Love that skinny minions deck!

Game 6: Dsell 29, Nicki Menagerie 23
http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20120503-124927-5592ac50.html
I think my strategy was kinda interesting here. Probably stupid, but interesting, and hey it worked out. I opened masquerade, but then again tried shanty town/torturer, and I knoooow it's a bad village but I just really wanted it to work! I think I got very lucky here to activate shanty town as much as I did, and probably to win the whole game in general. NM does masq with a few other terminals thrown in, which should have countered torturer pretty well (2nd masq may have been death to my torturers).

Game 7: Dsell 41, Nicki Menagerie 32
Torturers/cities. The luck really seemed to be shifting around in this game. I had a terrible first reshuffle, 4/4 and then baron whiffing and missing the reshuffle. Then I hit a lucky 5 copper hand with mint (and harem) on the board, which let me thin my deck a lot, which I ultimately think was a big part of the win. I still trailed NM's superior city and torturer stack most of the game, but after I broke PPR in hopes of a comeback, NM hit a terribly unlucky hand which netted only duchy.

Thanks, Nicki Menagerie/Duck Sauce! These games were really tense and close, and several of them had interesting end games. Intriguing match overall!  :P (I'm sorry...I had to...)
