In fairness, Joth, I told fang that you were his target audience last night so everything he was doing was designed to appeal to you. That kind of single-focused persuasion is powerful. Faust getting cranky about it just made it even more effective.

Fang, you were great! MVP, for sure.

And again, my apologies for the VLA x2. I didn’t realize when I signed up this that would play out, but it wasn’t awesome to be so absent.

Idk if this makes me feel better or worse.

At the end of the day it’s just a game. Everyone played it well. Win some lose some. But that Joseph thing, eh?

I think this was karma for your being hard on Joseph. That's what usually happens to me.

Lol. Yep.

It's so relatable, getting so drunk you think you're the mayor. Who among us hasn't had that happen at least once?

Any Townies notice that the Joseph wagon was entirely Town? Scum didn't vote that day at all.

Swowl, I am curious why you protected Dylan N1? In the speccy I think you were saying that Dylan NK was much more likely than Joseph. Was wondering why you thought there'd be a Dylan NK at all?

Also several people (in scumchat, speccy, and in this thread post game) have said scum should have blocked Dylan N2. I really don't get it. The way I see it, Dylan having one vote or two makes little difference at that point in the game. Much more important to have a chance of blocking a cop, or blocking a vig with scum in their sights.

But yes we misplayed Day 3 for sure. I should have just claimed VT. I suppose I thought I was finished, being first on Dylan's list, and thought I'd try something fun, and leave it up to Scola whether he wanted to contradict me or not. Wasn't sure whether he should or not, but in hindsight it was terrible (and those with more experience knew it was terrible without the hindsight). It was only as Day 3 ended that I started realising I was going to need to come up with some kind of cop result for the next day...  :-[

Weird, it worked for me, but I guess I'm already in it.

Does this work?

So this was the first game I've hosted. Mis-remembering the role from VT Joseph claiming Mayor aside... how was the balance?

I know after the claims, there were comments that there were about 2 PRs too many, but 2 of the claims were fake from scum.

Near the beginning, there was brief question of 2 or 3 scum, then it just became settled that there were 3 somehow. I was always planning RB and RoleCop for scum, but debated between 2 with weak Town (would have had Drunk, not Mayor, maybe 1 other role removed too), or 3 with strong Town which I ended up using, sort of.

As D1 begun, I wished I had given Doctor instead of Bodyguard, which could have made Vig more usable with the odd parity. Had Swowl saved as a Doc N1, the whole game would have been different, and Vig may have actually shot N2, or at least N4 if it lasted.

And a Cop instead of RoleCop would normally be better (but given the possibility of Insane Cop, plus if both Scum and Town RoleCops claimed, it would likely make a 1v1), so I though RoleCop was stronger here.

Overall, I felt balance was fair enough. Other opinions?

I don't have enough experience to comment on balance really.
But I will say that I liked there being a small set of possible roles, including some novel ones. I guess you'll run another with the same set of possible roles at some point?

My thoughts on balance are roughly that this would have been balanced had it been a 13-player game with 3 scum.

The town PRs weren't super strong, 1 IC-plus, 1 Rolecop, 1 Vig, 1 Bodyguard. It's decent but not unlike what you might get out of a C9++ setup with 4-5 non-T rolls. The scum roles provided a decent counter.

However, since there were only 11 players, I feel that town started at a disadvantage. In such situations I like to use Traitors, as they provide a way to implement something like 2.5 scum.

I might run another normal game with the same list of potential roles at some point. But I will definitely include some of those roles and variations on them in an RMM or BM game that I hope to run soon too.

Also, we ran into an issue with Chatzy (first noticed in Scum chat)...

Without a premium account, you can only "look back" at so many messages.  The full chat is not available.  They talked so much, I actually had to ask for them to re-post night actions on N1, since they had posted them and then it disappeared from view before the end of the night.

So, I'm going to say Chatzy is probably not the solution to our QT problem.

I'm going to leave the scum and speccy rooms as-is for a bit.  But as the admin in those rooms, I'm able to delete messages.  I'm wondering if, when I delete recent messages, I will be able to view older messages.  Then I may just need to post the full room chats into the thread here.

Turns out "deleting" the messages just deletes them from view (for the "general public").  They still sit in my "review" pane, crossed out, and with the ability to restore them.  Deleting them does not let me see any older messages (without paying for a premium account, which I don't plan to do).

I recommend NOT using Chatzy going forward.

The full "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" poem from this game:

Twas the month before Christmas, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
but they were all worried rats might see them there
The wee mice were nestled all snug in their beds
while visions of sharp cheddar danced in their heads
Momma had warned us, "watch out for that trap"
we were ready for shut-eye - a long winter night's nap
Before we could sleep, there arose such a clatter
so I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter
Accusations were flying.  Exile someone, they said
before I could do anything, MiX was dead
The sunrise was like magic on the new-fallen snow
but then it revealed what had happened below
When what to my wondering eyes did appear
but Swowl was found dead, making my eyes tear
With everything moving so lively and quick
I knew in a moment this must be a trick
More rapid than eagles, accusation and votes came
An exile was decided - Joseph2302 was his name
Now Pinky! now Fievel! now Minnie and Jerry!
On Nynaeve! on Mrs. Brisby! and on, Reepicheep!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! did you just see? gkrieg13 did fall!
As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly
When they meet clashing roleclaims, mount to the sky
So up to the housetop, arguments to work through
With a bag full of tricks, and all opinions heard too
And then, in a twinkling, I heard, no I saw
The prancing and pawing of a noodly mouse's paw
As I drew in my head, and was turning around
They exiled scolapasta, all tied up and bound.
Next morning, another was tied, from his head to his foot
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot
He was marred; he was mangled; he had scars on his back
Dylan32 had been killed, the rats had emptied out his pack
The rats - how they marveled.  Their disguises, so merry!
Their ploys and their plots and their plans made them cheery!
Rats took off mouse costumes, even the cute little bow,
The game was over before Christmas, time to play in the snow.
The rats smoked a pipe, held tight in their teeth;
And the smoke, it encircled their heads like a wreath.
They exiled faust today, then each patted his belly,
That shook when they laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.
I felt chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I smiled - the game's over - no help from myself.
A wink of the eye, and a twist of my head,
Soon gave me to know, I had nothing to dread.
I spoke not a word but went straight to work,
Typing the end of the game, then I turned with a jerk.
And laying my finger aside of my nose,
And giving a nod, I grabbed for a rose.
EFHW and jotheonah were endgamed - time for a whistle
infangthief and WestCoastDidds, rats were like a thistle.
Back to Real Life, I exclaimed, as I vanished from sight -
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"
