Yes, afaik the clue needs to be semantic. I once clued rhyme for two words that rhyme, and no-one complained, but they probably should have.

Reindeer and Football are the longest words…

Technically I don't believe this would be legal cluing.

You are correct, thank you. I got confused when thinking back on the rules; pp. 6-7 have a few odd examples of both clever valid and invalid clues.
“Your clue must be about the meaning of the words.”

I wasn’t expecting a fictional, proper name with Moria in this game. But that was definitely an awesome job for red team.

I think Candle and Tuxedo are the obvious ones here.

Inclined to agree. There’s maybe some other stretches, or references I don’t get but could see existing… but I would lean Candle & Tuxedo.

Pass is irrelevant, as Tuxedo is red!

gg!

(and great clue with Moria, that sealed it.)

Post mortem:

APPRENTICE: 3 - Pupil, Magician, Jeweler
MILITARY: 2 - Army, Parade
ENORMOUS: 2 - Saturn, Walrus
Unclued: Puppet, Glove

This was a pretty straightforward round for us. Except for the extra KING (which I new was possible, but was neutral), you got my clues perfectly. The problem, of course, is that it was not fast enough, given that they got the Moria 4. After that I was left with the choice of trying to clue the last 4 words (or a subset of them and have you guess randomly) or stay on target and hope they missed their last clue. I went went with the latter, even though I suspected something like "Romantic" might be the clue and game over.

But I couldn't think of a good way to tie 3 of the last 4 words, let alone all 4. (I briefly consider RINGS: 3 and hoped  somehow that might lead to Saturn, Glove, and Puppet, but thought Model was risky, and then still need the random WALRUS)

I did want to go ENORMOUS as my 2nd clue, but was worried Himalayas would get guessed before Walrus.

This was sort of like last game, only in reverse. Everything went smoothly for one side, but when the other team gets a perfect 4-clue, there's not much you can do.

Gg! If Candle was actually Moria, then the Change guess probably helped your spymaster a bit. :)

Well done team!

The intended fourth for Moria was Candle. I hadn't considered Changed and I like the argument for it, but I think I still prefer Candle; it seems like a simpler connection - Moria is dark and that's what candles are for. All you had to know about Moria is that it's a dark Dwarf cave under a snowy mountain range. If I was to clue Moria for Change (with a different group), I would feel uneasy about the likelihood of them getting it. That Change was red was a stroke of luck, but it seems that flipping neutral would not have changed the result. Although I guess it's lucky that the unplanned 2 of Tuxedo/Candle was easy to clue.
I wasn't too worried about King, but was hoping that Army would flip early enough for the Moria clue.

For Outstanding, I knew there were other contenders, but it seemed like a safe 2 as long as someone knew the Field phrase, particularly the scarecrow joke. I was actually leaning towards Tuxedo as a third ("you look outstanding", and I was imagining a groom "standing" like a scarecrow), but I wasn't sure to what extent that was because I knew it was red, and including it seemed like an unnecessary risk given that I already had a plan for it.

The Tuxedo/Change clue initially was going to be Dressed, but I was a little concerned about Glove - it seemed plausible that you would see two types of clothing and assume it was them without considering "get changed" as a synonym for "get dressed", so I probably would have ended up going for Alteration, which seems safe enough.

This is what I love about this game, that sometimes you can get it wrong and yet get it right. I was thinking Changed was like a little in the weeds, but the more I thought about it the more I liked it.
