Unvote from RVS.

@mathdude, did you in fact find ashersky scummy? He's the only one so far who has pinged any scum bells for me.

Vote: ashersky.

PPE: Yeah, saw that coming...

Ash has not pinged scum bells for me at all. Why do you?

Hot take: The people who are sussing mathdude are scummy, because going after the newbie is easy and comes with a lot of built-in deniability.

Vote: MiX

Yeah but it's MiX.

Is "the space gambit" a thing that means SA is mafia?

I don't expect anyone to be convinced.

This game feels comfortably familiar.  That's nice.

I have town reads on MiX and math.  Also, what's with math (the subject) and this forum?

My vote on gkrieg has expired.  He's town.

vote: joth -- most active, posting hot takes, building up early cred.  Could be mafia putting in the work.

The vote was originally in post 76 here:

Hey gkrieg, were we mafia partners in a previous iteration of this setup?  I have vague recollections of us choosing no PRs and then lying about a bunch of stuff...and of course winning.  (I feel like we win a lot when we are the bad guys.)

Or was that a different setup?

Also, what's it called when you vote someone just for voting you?  Man, it's been a long time since I played.

vote: gkrieg

Here is every gkrieg post since then:

Hey gkrieg, were we mafia partners in a previous iteration of this setup?  I have vague recollections of us choosing no PRs and then lying about a bunch of stuff...and of course winning.  (I feel like we win a lot when we are the bad guys.)

Sounds familiar. I agree that it is probably the right choice to not choose many options as scum.

Has gkrieg posted yet?

Yeah, he voted ash, why do you ask?

Was just trying to get a handle on who had shown up. Very little content from him so far, just that one post, so maybe a pressure

vote: gkrieg

is in order.

I’m usually pretty inactive on the weekends by the way.

So was gkrieg town in your mind when you made the vote originally, or did something in those two posts change your mind?

Vote: EFHW, although I disagree that EFHW is scum, I had the exact same thought about her. I don't think it applies to EFHW though, but it might, so we can follow through this.
I'm confused about what the thought is that you had about EFHW.

Something along the lines of "You know, EFHW could really be scum this game, she's quiet, I don't want to vote her, so maybe she's scum". To which I followed up with "eh, there's other people that also fit this that are probably better". But since Didds kinda said the first part, I felt like I was at least somewhat right, so I decided to follow up on that first part with a vote.

I haven't commented on the votes on me so far because they seem like noise, but this one is notably bad. Punishing people for putting in the work and rewarding people for lurking is a pretty dumb strategy for scumhunting, not to mention for building a fun community to play mafia with.

Why do you think this makes ashersky scum? Seems like a policy vote so far.

Why do you think this makes ashersky scum? Seems like a policy vote so far.

1. Scum likes to keep lurkers around; makes it easier to control the game as it goes on and gives easy misexiles later.

2. It’s suspicious that ash switched off of gkrieg despite gkrieg giving him no reason to do so.

3. What’s wrong with a policy vote?

Why is it that about 20 people in this game have made totally unexplained votes and been completely ignored but I'm getting the third degree for voting for someone who made a really bad case and explaining that I'm voting for him because he made a really bad case?

I think I made a fairly cromulent case.  They can’t all be the best case ever.

It’s certainly better than your case on me.  I’m more convinced by my case than yours, so I won’t be switching.

@dylan

Your post is too long to phone quote.

No, I was never actually reading gkrieg as mafia, it was rvs-lite.

Gkrieg’s initial response to me was the turning point.  Mafia!gkrieg doesn’t like saying what mafia!gkrieg would do.  Not that he won’t, but it’s uncomfortable.

(All my reads are based on data from what may be years ago at this point, so things may have changed.)

Also, joth misrepresented my case as somehow a general statement to be applied to all players.  It was not.

It’s easy to say I am saying to exile all active players to keep lurkers around as a mafia ploy.  But I’m saying that joth being the most active player is more indicative of mafia!joth than town!joth.

I never said active=bad.  I said joth being active could be him putting in the work as mafia.  Like when you put way too much salt in a dish because you are so worried you aren’t putting in enough salt.  I think he could be over-salting.

It’s a D1 case.  Not much to it.

So, in sum, joth seems to be oversalting, plus misrepresentating my case in his own omgus (that’s the term I wanted before) case against me.

Huh. That's a way more well-reasoned explanation than I expected. I don't remember his meta well enough to know if it's correct, but it's plausible at least.

Joth's posts #134 and #136 sounded fine to me, because I had the same thought about exiling based on high activity being a generally bad thing and I think getting Ash to clarify that was a good thing. However, I second MiX's question about AtE, because there were only two replies, 1 clarifying question from faust and then MiX being MiX.

Do I think Ash is scum?

Idk. Maybe. My vote is currently on him because that's the best place for it to be IMO.

Is it a policy vote?

No. Except insofar as my policy is to vote for the person I think is most likely to be scum.

It would be pretty easy to persuade me to move my vote if anyone makes a half-decent case on anyone who isn't me.

Ash's responses have begrudgingly impressed me. I forgot how much his play is driven by his understanding of our individual metas.

(I am jealous and impressed because my brain doesn't work that way and I can't possibly keep track of two metas for every person on this forum.)

For the record, posting too much and thereby heaping suspicion on myself and skating way too close to being the day 1 exile is pretty standard meta for me regardless of my role and alignment. I would argue that if anything scum!joth is a more careful poster. He would never have posted

Why is it that about 20 people in this game have made totally unexplained votes and been completely ignored but I'm getting the third degree for voting for someone who made a really bad case and explaining that I'm voting for him because he made a really bad case?

because, as Dylan said, it reads as a scummy overreaction to a small amount of scrutiny. But town!Joth just sort of clicked post because he was feeling ticked off because he hadn't had his coffee yet and didn't even consider how it might come across.
