Ozymandias II?

I went to check the leaderboard, hoping I might have finally cracked Level 40 (darn, one spot away!) http://dominion.isotropic.org/leaderboard/

The new top player is Ozymandias II, who rose 19 levels in one day and is now ranked higher than, I think, any player ever.

Probably one of the old cheaters back under a new name, no big deal. There have been plenty other names at level 49+ fwiw, but they're all known cheaters.

I don't think it's one of the old cheaters. I've had a few games with him in the past. 4-1-1 in my favour.

Apparently winning 10 games out of 12 after a 20 day long hiatus bumps you up 19 levels.

Lekkit, councilroom filters out games where a player resigns in the first two turns (or something like that), I'm pretty sure. I can assure you and anyone else that no one gains 19 levels from going 10-2, clearly he played and won lots of games against a dummy account(s) yesterday. Good for him. If you take a look at his "games played" graph, it looks like it jumped 100-120 games yesterday.

After looking at his councilroom page though, I will say it's clearly not one of the old cheaters back, just a new one.

It "only" jumped 93 ranked games yesterday looking at the old leaderboards. Didn't know that Councilroom filtered out the shorter games. That's why I didn't even bother to look at his games played-graph.

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Ozymandias by Perchy Bysshe Shelley

Perhaps a fitting name for one who cheats to get to the top of an online game leaderboard.

I met a traveller in an antique land
Who said 'Six vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert
And on the pedestal these words appear
My name is Ozymandias, King of Ants
Look on my feelers, termites, and despair
I am the biggest ant you'll ever see
The ants of old weren't half as bold and big
And fierce as me'.

The original is my favorite poem.  The above is the first format in which I encountered it.  :P

While it could be an artifact of how Trueskill only updates once a day, where he goes something like 90-10 against level 20-30 competition, and his long absence makes his variance high enough that such a result adds more than it would have it it was spread over a week.  A 90% win rate against level 25s might be good enough for level 50 in general since I don't know the formula, but in the abstract it's even more likely if one lumps it all onto one day of results where one's variance is higher than normal.  As to playing 100 games in a day, with 5-minute games would only be a bit over 8 hours.

However, in this case it's clear that even if he does play a decent number of legitimate games that he has to be cheating in some fashion: his number of Council Room games are half of his number of ranked games.  He's clearly spending at least some time setting up a dummy opponent and having them concede right away.  His games played jumped far more than his CR recent record would indicate.

He may have intentionally cheated his way to the top of the leaderboard as a form of social commentary.

Now that Ozymandias stands at the top of the leaderboard, some players will remember his 'works' and despair at how he was able to climb to the top, and we were not. And yet, in some short time, his fame (infamy?) will pass. Next, the isotropic leaderboard will go away, replaced by the commercial version. Ultimately, online Dominion will fade in popularity and disappear.

Nothing beside remains.

That... that was beautiful.

And today, Ozymandias II has completely vanished from the leaderboard, so this thread is pretty meta, now.

I think ozymandias just changed his name to bubbafisk. Who apparently lost 4 levels to drop to 45 despite not playing in months and last being at ~lvl 25 according to councilroom. So there are some sort of name change shenanigans going on.

Reminds me of that poem about the transience of power: ""My name is Bubbafisk, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"

Ozymandias used to be the leader right? And now this Fabian guy is at the top. Hmm... I wonder what he changed his name too...  :P

(In case it wasn't obvious, this is a joke)
