Whew!

You guys made me stress with that last clue. I thought it was 100% obvious. To be clear, I will point out that the clue was Capitol, not capital. The Capitol is the building in Washington DC where Congress presides.

I'll work on a full post mortem (this was a crazy round!) but I preferred this to something like President, because I was trying to avoid Change. (and something like American could have easily been South)

I'm glad you realized that it if it had been South, I would have gone with North or Direction.

Yeah. So we’re at 2/3 out of File, Point, and Sock. I’m fine going for Point next.

😭😭

We had it down to Neutral, Blue, Blue

So yeah, that was a crazy round - it's the first time I've successfully used the zero clue*. I loved the Vote: scola joke for it, btw, but stayed quiet as the spymaster.

* I used it once in an in person game (remember those from the Before Times), and the person misunderstood and guessed the exact clue, the assassin, that I was trying to avoid.

Post mortem:
INTERNATIONAL (6): Spy, Embassy, Earth, Washington, Football, Church
KING (0): Ruler, Princess
WOOLY (1): Mammoth
GOALS (2): Football, Dream
CAPITOL (1): Washington

I love going big and I knew there were some hazards with INTERNATIONAL, but I thought they'd be mostly from the neutral words. I didn't think you'd go with Ruler or Princess because to me they felt more "national", less "inter". I also hoped you'd think Washington before England because DC is a very international city, whereas, with the exception of London, I don't see England as that international either. And yes International Football as in soccer (I am a bug fan) and Church spans multiple nations. So hopefully get 2-4 in the first round, only hit neutrals, and then have some idea for the +1 of future rounds.

But then you did debate both Ruler and Princess! If it had just been the one, I might have risked sticking with ours words, but with both, I figured I'd try the zero clue (also it allowed unlimited guesses and you still had 4 left from the first round).

It didn't occur to me that King could point to Washington and remove it from your possibles. Though after I did think of Martin Luther King and both the March on Washington and the I have a Dream speech. So was worried you'd avoid both those.

It helped they got Brush for us, and were probably going to get Football (before the excellent Kaep: 0 clue), so I was now focussed on Washington, Dream, and Mammoth. Couldn't think of anything to combine those that I liked. Maybe: Big (2) for dreams (big dreams)? but also big change and big socks (to fill) and we had a decent lead, so decided not to risk it.

Then when it was clear they weren't guessing Football for us, came up with Goals for Dream and Football. Was a little worried you might go Point, since a goal is a point, which is why I went with the plural version.

And then I already explained my reasoning around the last clue.

My last thought is for the last blue turn, there were 4 non blue words, Washington, Change, South, and Point. There was already reason to believe Change was not Blue and maybe Washington, so was thinking maybe he could have gone DIRECTION:0, to get you to skip South and Point and not get the remaining blue.

Lol yeah, sorry. There were definitely some language-induced hiccups this time around that I should have given more thought.

My intentions were:

Mask: Face, Button, Sock (because Ski Mask), Cat

Opera was a planned casualty, I thought it was fine because it's neutral. I did not consider football at all because in my mind football=soccer and I did not think about a sport involving masks...

Wire: Copper, Button, File

Yeah, I was mostly thinking wire as electrical wire, not considering other types of wire. From that perspective, these made sense. Didn't know about the term wire brush at all, so *sigh*.

Kaepernick: Football, Change, Washington

Definitely needed to do something about football, and Change was a very dangerous assassin word because it fits with so many clues. Washington was an outside bet, there was no real danger of it getting guessed, but it was nice to have it covered too. Honestly I thought the game was forfeit at this point as I was like 90% certain that the next clue was going to be American: 3, for Washington/Football/Dreams. Turns out I was wrong.

Heraldry: Ruler, Princess, File

I thought Ruler/Princess were already quite strongly clued to be our words by how eager scola was to avoid them, but I guess that didn't enter consideration. Anyways those two are trivial to connect, I needed to cover a third word. I chose file as that was the one you didn't mention at all so far, and heraldry was trying to go there by being a bureaucratic endeavour. my alternative clue was Zelda, but I'm not familiar enough with those games to know for sure that it wouldn't lead somewhere else.

Why Washington?

American would have been good here, I didn't see it. Though I still think they might have guessed South before Dream.

Yeah, I was sitting here after we guessed Point, and was definitely coming around to Sock for a couple of other reasons - definitely was feeling more confident with it... but even if we had gone Sock first over Point, I just don't think I ever would've gotten to File. I really liked the Zelda non-clue though. That would've worked out, I think. Ah well - it all ended super close!

Helicopter Crash also seems pretty obvious here.

Past that, it's not quite as clear.

Time Crash - This is a mini-episode in New Who (errr... 2005-2010?) starring David Tenant and Peter Davidson... But this could be an unintentional connection.

Engine failure could cause a Car Crash.

Missiles could cause a Crash?

Agree with Death/Helicopter. Engine and Missile also came to mind. I could see Piano, thinking about comic strips where a piano falls from the sky.

Let's lock the first two in.
