Moat, Sheepdog, and Gaining

If a Witch attacks me and I gain a Curse, playing a Sheepdog from hand, can I then reveal a Moat to block the Curse?

I know reactions can be performed in any order, but the dog only triggers when I gain a card. Does Moat's protection allow a player to be unaffected after they've already gained the card?

Once Witch starts doing stuff to you, e.g. giving you Curse, it's too late to use Moat. So no, this doesn't work.

And even if Moat's rules did allow you to reveal it later, after Witch has started to resolve, what does it event mean to be “unaffected” by something that has already happened? You’ve gained the Curse at this point, it’s logically impossible to somehow not be affected by Witch at this point.

Yeah. You can use moat to be unaffected by witch; in that case, you do not gain a curse, and cannot activate sheepdog (because you did not gain anything.) Alternatively, if you DON'T use moat, you gain a curse, and can react to that with Sheepdog.

But once you've gained the curse, you can't un-gain it retroactively by revealing a moat.

If you reveal TARDIS and trigger its Reaction, you can travel back 10sec and then reveal the Moat.

It is blue, and card-shaped (at some scale)!

That's why they call Sheepdog-TARDIS-Moat the TripleIndigo reaction combo.

Yeah I figured as much but didn’t know for sure.

It’s cool that the dog can still grab a Watchtower or a Trader or whatever, and a Moat is still useful if there’s a Torturer string and you can be protected starting from Attack #2.

No, this is the same thing as the Moat question really. I mean, if the rules were different, then Diplomat could make sense to use later while Moat couldn't. But with both cards as written, "When another player plays an Attack card, you may first..." must happen "first"; before any of the attack card's instructions are followed.

Watchtower works, because it triggers after you gained the Curse, just like Sheepdog. But Trader would be too late; it triggers when you would gain the Curse, so before you gain the Curse - before you can use Sheepdog.

Of course, now with Donald's suggested erratum, that would no longer be true.  Sheepdog would now work with Trader!
