Best and Worst Embedded Narrative in Dominion

BEST: Peasant line.
I love the way the card art combines with the mechanics and the card names to create this sweeping narrative that implies so much about the "world" of Dominion. The idea that life in this reality imparts a wisdom, through suffering, that can then be imparted to a Wandering Minstrel, or to a whole Village, is clearly the master narrative that contains the rest of the "story of Dominion."

WORST: Bag of Gold.
Hold on. If it costs an action to take a piece of gold out of the bag, doesn't that imply that Gold is never, otherwise, stored in bags -- or in containers of any kind? That everyone in the world of Dominion is wandering around with all of their gold held in their hands at all times? Absolutely absurd.

Not to mention that it shows a bag of copper.

I would nominate Alchemist as the worst "story". You pay money to buy potions, then you play potions that produce potion to buy alchemists that work while holding up a candle with one free hand.

Then you can make them stick around by showing them more potions later. What exactly is it that they're doing for you?

The strangest part of all this is that the Alchemists should really be making potions for you, not the other way around. That's your job!

Nono, that's why they're ill-gotten. It's money that you get through immoral means. Cursing everyone else is the immoral means, the card itself is the gains.

Drinking that energy drink potion/drug and sticking around late in your Labs with that candle to pull a double shift you can rely on! But if you don't keep feeding them stims they fall asleep.

But you get the action back.  Honestly the weirdest part of Bag of Gold is that it actually creates gold - it's not just storing gold around, it's creating gold out of thin air.  It must be a magic bag

The magically appearing gold is the result of all of the Alchemist’s hard work. He finally got the lead out and changed it to gold. However, he’s not very good at it. We have 10 Alchemists in our Dominion, but they can only manage to produce one Bag of Gold between them. Not only that, but most want-to-be-rulers who have built up enough equity to take ownership of a Province would rather be on social media and have Followers, or take a ride on their Trusty Steed, or find a nice Princess to marry and let her money help reduce some of the costs, all before they would even think about grabbing that Bag of Gold, no matter how magical it is.

One that I personally enjoy is the Baron. He fancies himself to be some sort of real estate mogul, that is, he seems to pick up real Estates on a regular basis. He also loves to buy things. So he has to dispose of Estates regularly in order to bring in some money. Besides the fact that he has a somewhat shifty look to him, what is truly intriguing about him is that he always gets the same price for every Estate. You would think that with the the way the market is, he would get a little more for one over another, but completely ignoring "location, location, location", he keeps asking for the same amount each time. Definitely not a financial genius, but you can tell that from the people always whispering about him behind his back.

Not exactly a narrative, but I like how we have all we need for a proper Coven - a Maiden, Mother, and Crone, or a Young Witch, Witch, and Old Witch.
