The list of Donald's fake cards
« on: March 20, 2012, 11:01:06 am »

Been reading old BGG Dominion threads (for the lulz), and found a few amusing fake sample cards Donald references:

Quote
Consider a card that was an Unsilversmith. "Silver produces $1 less this turn." With some bonus to make you actually play it.

Quote
Say there was a card, Card Explosion, reading "this turn, all other action cards also say '+1 Card.'

Quote
And another card, Count Your Blessings, that said "+$1 per action in play that says '+1 Card' on it."

Quote
What if a treasure makes a variable amount of money? Say you roll a die and it's worth that much.

I don't have a quote, but I know he has also referenced "Throw-in-a-Silver," a card that you could reveal when you gain a card to also gain a Silver.

Advisor's Pal: Action - Duration, $5
Now and at the start of your next turn, +1 Card and +$1.
----------
When you choose this card, gain a Gold.

Strict Peddler: Action, $4
+1 Card
+1 Action
+$1
This turn, optional abilities are mandatory.

Quote
Persuasive Procurer - Action, $5
+$2
In your buy phase this turn, the other players reveal their hands, and you can buy cards from them.

Quote
Band of Nitwits: Action, $5
Play this as if it were any joke card Donald X. has posted in the forums costing less than it that you choose. This is that card until it leaves play or becomes too confusing.

So, these are awesome and amusing. Anybody else remember/can find fake sample cards that Donald has used? I especially love the names. :D

Whenever Donald walks into the club, he makes it rain hypothetical card concepts.

What was the context for some of those? Curious.

What was the context for some of those? Curious.

The context for the first 3 was all related to a question about what would happen if you played Copper during Black Market action, then later played a Coppersmith. People were wondering if the already-played Copper would get the bonus. Of course it doesn't. "Throw-in-a-Silver" comes from the now-infamous Ironworks/Trader ruling. I can't remember where I saw the variable-treasure one; though obviously it was before Bank and Philosopher's Stone were around!

This thread is actually helpful in playing Band of Nitwits!

I must say though that Ironscout is brilliant. It could actually be an official dominion card!

Yeah, sounds like it could fit perfectly well in the Intrigue expansion.

I dunno. Sounds overpowered to me. And it doesn't tell you what happens if you reveal a blue dog.

Hmm... not sure, but I think Band of Scouts is strictly better.

You walk it and feed it, of course (unless you revealed trader, then only walk it).

I think Strict Peddler could use some self-synergy: You may make optional abilities mandatory for this turn only.

I've been thinking this for a while too.

Only one of you can be island. I suggest you decide who keeps the avatar by doing a best of three on goko. Whoever loses has to change their avatar to scout.

Why wouldn't you want to change your avatar for scout? I'm not buying it, you've just stopped making it so blatant. Make it navigator.

Sorry if anyone's avatar is navigator...

You might not believe me, but I had written the post first, and only then did I notice that I was mentioning scout.

Anyway, navigator is already taken...

Only one of you can be island.

At least one English poet would suggest that neither of them can be an island.

(Side note: it took me something like 3 views of The Incredibles to realize the island around which the plot revolves is named "Nomanisan Island.")

King Solomon decrees that the pictures of Island must be cleft in twain; each shall take but one half of the whole.

(Be advised that this is a clever deceit; only the true owner of the picture of Island will refuse such an offer, begging that the picture remain intact, even if that means giving it to another.  It is this person who is most fit to bear it.)

We should go in chronological order.  I was first.

If I wasn't first, we should go in reversed chronological order.
