Stewarding/Remaking Treasure Maps

Rules question for everyone

Can you activate Treasure Maps by trashing two of them with remake or steward? Came across this when playing irl tonight and was wondering. We thought yes, seeing that the card does not specify when it has to occur, although I did argue that for that to apply it would have to be labeled a reaction card?

I can't think of a situation where this would benefit with Steward but with Remake could be very useful trashing two T. Maps into the 4 Golds and two $5 cards.

I checked and isotropic does not give the effect when trashing with Steward.

The effect is only triggered is when one of the Treasure Maps is played as an action itself.

All the stuff that an action card says only gets activated when the action card gets played; and Treasure Map is no exception. You only gain the four golds if you actually play the Treasure Map.

What the others said.

Also, what you propose could only happen if Treasure Map were rewritten as a Reaction.

Opening Chapel / Treasure Map would be a lot more powerful if any trasher could trigger the gain 4 golds effect of Treasure Map.

I didn't even think of Chapel--we don't own the base set so don't play it very often.

Thanks for the responses, glad to get some feedback and even better to see that I apparently won the argument.

Heh.  Yeah, usually this comes up in the base set with Feast and Chapel.

If it helps, think of the card commands like subroutines in computer code. The subroutine is only called once you play the action. So if you just trash two treasure maps with another card, your program never even reads the lines about gaining gold because you never called that subroutine.
