Noble Brigand and Trash

Why is the Noble Brigand's ability phrased in a way that indicates the treasures visit the trash?  Why, for example, is it not simply "take a Silver or Gold" or something to that effect?

Your suggestion with "take" would be a new keyword. You could use an old keyword like "pass" from Masquerade and the wording would indeed be more compact (but more rule-complex).
The reason I guess Noble Brigand did not use a word like "pass" is that it is based on Thief. Thief would become more text-intensive if you formulate it via "pass" (as the gaining of Treasures is optional).

As with Thief, it's to make card interactions clearer.
