New Card concept- standing army

Cost 6 Reaction Attack Duration

Place in your play area
When an opponent plays an Attack, you may trash this card to cancel the effect and trash that card

My family came up with this after getting sick of Bandit spams as an effective counter

Rather than a Reaction Duration card in the play area, have you considered making it a Reserve card that you can call from your Tavern mat?

Also, I think the cost may be too much for a one shot defense. (though it does trash the others' attack).

This is arguably weaker (terminal, no Coins) than Lighthouse.

Another pretty effective counter to Bandit is to make a Treasureless engine.

Welcome to the forum!

One issue is that this card does literally nothing in games without attacks, or in games with only weak attacks where it is better to ignore the attack. A lot of random setups won’t have any attack cards at all, so you should account for it.

The other issue is that if this counter is effective enough, then it will just make it so that people will never choose to buy an attack card when this is available. In which case no one would buy Standing Army either. So it just makes multiple cards not even an option in the setup.

This lacks context.

Also, folks already mentioned that engines are a good defense against Bandit and, guess what, Bandit itself defends against Bandit! Of all the trashing attacks in the game, it is the most harmless one because it gains the very stuff that it trashes.

There are overpowered Attacks in Dominion like Mountebank, Torturer and above all Cultist. Bandit is pretty mild in comparison.
