I did my 1st rated game online today and I won even though there was quite a few cards I did not know (by the way, is it possible to do automatching but only with my familiar cards?).

Kingdom was :
Poacher Council room Festival Sculptor Artisan
Lackeys Acting Troup Experiment Vassal MoneyLender
Landmarks : Fair Fleet

I am not sure what is the best way to post the log, but here it is :

I was lucky because I am quite used to Festival and Artisan boards so that's what I was looking for initially. I liked lackeys as a drawer and a way to smooth my draws (with council room for instance). I did not see a lot of value to Experiment and Sculptor and I felt 1 moneylender was enough.

Any remarks ?
thanks !

You can't play rated games with liked or familiar cards but can ban or reduce the offering rate of a few cards for rated play. I looked through the whole log briefly, and your turns seem pretty decent overall. I would have definitely opened with a sculptor with a 2/5 opening (getting a gainer on your first two turns can be very good--it is a bit less good here because there is Artisan, which you also want to get, but I think it is still worth it). I would have thought about maybe getting a couple of vassals to help with economy, although I don't think you were really hurting for money much--vassal is better if you have 2 Artisans. Lastly, be careful with poacher if you think piles may go low (couldn't tell how low they went, but with Artisan, piles can often empty).

Quite nice play. Good use of artisans. As with the above comment sculptor is a powerhouse (so you open at 5) (especially on that board). nice trashing, nice econ understanding. Probably first buy moneylender then poacher. Trashing those coppers is important. Nice village to smithy-variant ratio. Gj!

Thanks for the kind words !

Ok so it seems I totally underestimated Sculptor. My reasoning was that Festival and Artisan were the key cards here and I had to go to Artisan quickly, hence Festival was necessary (and anyhow, I wanted to build a festival-lackey engine with a bit of council room).

Also, as I dismissed Vassal (it's not a card I used a lot and vaued a lot), I did not see a lot of value in 3-4 cost cards (basically I thought I needed 1 moneylender and a few poacher at most). Indeed, I now see that moneylender a bit earlier and at least 1 vassal in the mid-game would have been better (above all as I realize now that the combo with Artisan is pretty nifty!)

As to poacher, I did not really mind if a pile emptied in the late game and indeed I emptied the Festivals at the end. But yeah, I only got 2 of them, just in case.

Festival-Lackey has some problems as an engine. Chief of which is that it doesn't actually have any net draw.

Centuries later, archaeologists discover the remains of your ancient civilization.

Evidence of thriving towns, Pottery, roads, and a centralized government amaze the startled scientists.

Finally, they come upon a stone tablet, which contains but one mysterious phrase!

I made that mistake with Squire/Steward earlier today, actually. I realized about halfway through, and tried to switch to Imps from Devil's Workshop, which required Guides. I might have come back and won if I had bought a Duchy instead of the last Province due to miscounting points, but I doubt it.
