First game that I pile-drived provinces

So, today was the first game that I played where I bought all the provinces in one turn. There was KC, Hamlet, and Highway, so I guess it wasn't too impressive, but still I'm feeling pretty good about it, because this was the first time I pulled it off. I also managed to get three Fairgrounds because I got 11 buys that turn.

Think I only got it once, Tactician-KC-Bridges.  I think that's even less impressive...

I'll be impressed when you do it with Markets, Hunting Parties, and a Counting House.

Come on.  It's impossible without cost reduction.

Highway is actually tougher to use than Bridge, methinks.

Well... pile driver doesn't require you to do it in one turn, so cost reduction isn't really needed.  With any reasonably competitive opponent, it really shouldn't happen unless you are both going for the mega turn, but I am pretty sure I have one or two Province pile drivers without Highway/Bridge.

It can also happen with Colony or Duke.

Good point.  Province vs Duke could be a competitive match up that ended up with pile driver on the Provinces.  I feel like Colony would still be pretty uncommon in a competitive scenario.  If one player is getting them all, I would think either they are doing something wrong, or their opponent should have gotten some also.

Ever heard of 1) Tiny screen 2) Using Images 3) Not seeing Colonies and 4) Going for Gardens without +Buy all at the same time? Yeah, thats how I give my opponent Piledriver on Colonies from time to time.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying it doesn't happen.  I'm just saying it probably shouldn't in a competitive game.  I know there are lots of users on Iso that don't make for very competitive games.

Vineyards can (often?) lead to a situation where you let the opponent pile-drive Colonies. Usually one player will try to go fro a 3-pile on Vineyards and 2 cheap actions, but failing to do this fast enough can allow the other player to get his deck going enough to buy colonies. At this point, the first player either doesn't have enough money to buy colonies himself, or needs to delay the game in an attempt to keep up.

Also don't forget VP tokens (bishop/goons especially), which also seem to lead to opponents getting the pile-drive for victory piles.

I would say that these could still be competitive games.

I came close to piledriving on Colonies in this game; it wasn't obvious that my Colony-aimed strategy was the stronger of the two.

Evidence of thriving towns, Pottery, roads, and a centralized government amaze the startled scientists.

Finally, they come upon a stone tablet, which contains but one mysterious phrase!

I think this is my first Colony piledriver with the usual suspects KC and Highway:

It uses Highway instead of Bridge (which makes it harder) and due to my 2 KC'd Festivals and single Council Room I have exactly 8 buys. Colonies still cost $2 at this point, but I had $21+P which was enough. ;D

I'm especially proud that it took only 13 turns, but my opponent wasn't a threat: he opened Potion-Village and didn't fight me for Highways.
