I just played against sadeas5. I played normally, as I always do.

At the end of the game, this is what this player wrote to me:

sadeas5:  way to get lucky faggot bitch, now do the world a favor and go fucking die 

I did not communicate with this player in any way, nor did I do anything other than play a normal game. I have seen sore losers, but I have never been confronted with hate speech.

Is there a way to report truly despicable, abusive players like this?

Yes, blacklist them. If someone gets blacklisted more often than most people, the mods will see that and look into it.

To me, that feels like it goes beyond mere discourtesy or subjective offensiveness, and into more extremely objectionable territory. Safeguarding policies ought to mean there's a way to report such behaviour directly, rather than relying on the admins spotting it if the perpetrator does it repeatedly.

If someone behaves in the way reported (and the admins can presumably check the report's accuracy) then one time is one time too many. It shouldn't have to form part of a pattern of behaviour before something's done.

I think there would be a fair amount of complaints; at the least a lot more than there are actual problems. The types of people who are being quoted above are also likely the types of people who would abuse a reporting system to report people in an effort to troll them.

I have asked something like this before.

Can I mark them as horrible, i.e. different than a player that I blacklisted just due to, say, differences in undo preferences? This extra marking could contribute to the Stef-investigates-said-player more than the normal blacklist flag.

I think there is a big difference between
"I am blacklisting this person because they have different play preferences than me"
and
"I am blacklisting this person because they are a racist/sexist/whateverist person and I don't want anything to do with them ever again".

And I wouldn't think it would be that hard. Facebook for example has several levels of flagging -- silencing a friend, unfriending a friend, reporting a friend as spam, etc. Such a system seems industry-standard. And i still wonder how other online gaming platforms handle it.
