Prosperity-Empires game

Any advice for how I could have better played the following Kingdom?

Loan, Venture, Capital
Farmers' Market, Monument, Goons
Engineer, Watchtower, Counting House
King's Court, Platinum, Colony
Windfall, Basilica

4 players game. I had the only 5-2 start. As it was I opened Venture-Engineer, then picked up another Venture and couple of Loans to go for a BM approach (later picking up a Goons as my terminal). I ended up second, but I don't think anyone played this well.

The winner made good use of the Goons-Market Square Watchtower-Basilica synergy, but was otherwise similarly uninspired.

King's Court and Goons is going to dominate this board for sure - you get to keep scoring while building so you just never stop building up.

I'd open double Loan probably just because there's no other trashing, grab a Vault or two early to help spike 6, and then just shoot for as many KC and Goons as I can stuff in a deck. It's a little precarious with the limited draw and no cantrips so you have to have 2KC in hand to start off, but you can probably still set up some big turns.

Maybe there isn't time in 4P, but in that case Loan / Venture into Goons BM is also fine.

On 5-2 I would definitely get Capital, that allows you to hit the price points for King's Court, Goons and Platinum early. Also Capital allows you to grab Basilica points early.

But I doubt KC is worth it here, the main problem being that the only draw (Watchtower) does not stack when KC'ed, and there are no cantrips. So I'd open Capital-Engineer [if it is 5-2, on 2-5 you have to open Capital - nothing), trash the Engineer first play for double Loan, and get 2 Goons ASAP, then prioritizing Gold/Platinum. Additional $5s can be Ventures.

Not sure where Chris is getting Vault from, it's not in the posted kingdom.

I'm also confused... there is no Market Square in the kingdom? If that was there, it would change the game heavily in favor of engine.

Oops. That should say Watchtower. I'll fix it.

Sorry, my brain mixes up Vault and Venture. That changes things a lot.

You can still get SOME draw out of Watchtower, and do KC Goons Watchtower... you won't be consistent but you only need a couple big turns to come out on top.

Watchtower will also mitigate opponents' Goons, of course.

I've seen worse three-card hands than KC, KC, Watchtower.

The biggest thing is that you're stuck with Estates and at least one Treasure (Loan) - you'll also likely carry a Silver or two for awhile early. So that's at best four stop cards out of a six card hand. You'll never draw your entire deck, but you can still set up big turns sometimes I think.

In this sort of game you might find that watchtower + platinum + colonies is ok. If the other players are playing with 3 card hands with goons they can't do that much without hitting a magic king's court turn. Piles might run out in 4 player before an engine truly takes off.
