Judge how much better or worse the Dutch mistranslated cards are

So, since there are and were so many mistranslated cards in Dutch, let's have a discussion on how much better (or worse) the mistranslations make them.

I'll list them here:

-Bandit: each other player must trash ALL revealed Treasures other than Copper, instead of just one.
-Tribute: the revealed cards aren't discarded.
-Pirate Ship: the player who plays the Pirate Ship also reveals the top two cards of his OWN deck, trashes a revealed treasure, et cetera.
-Young Witch: when played, revealing a bane is MANDATORY for other players, if possible.
-Madman: returning it to the Madman pile is optional.
-Urchin: gives +1 Card, +1 Buy, instead of +1 Card, +1 Action.
-Rogue: like Pirate Ship, also attacks the player who played it.
-Stonemason: when overpaying, the cards you gain can be ANY card, not just Action cards.
-Plan: trashing is now linked to playing the Plan'd cards instead of buying them.
-Gladiator: the +$1 is replaced with +$2.
-Triumphal Arch: when it's a tie, instead of counting either, you count the sum of both.

Madman can be used as a Necropolis until you 'spring' it, so that's interesting.
Urchin can't be chained, so becomes a lot worse.
Pirate Ship is the most interesting of the lot. Now you can use it as a slightly more risky Lookout, or Miser.

I think Pirate Ship is a less risky Lookout. It can still only trash treasures. Overall becomes much stronger; you can thin your Coppers; as well as increase your chances of getting a coin token.

Hey, that's an interesting card idea...  A trasher that also lets your opponent trash.  Of course, it needs to give you a benefit as well...  +VP, maybe?

At first glance...

Stonemason is ridiculously overpowered: $10 for two Provinces? Yes please!

Bandit, Tribute, Pirate Ship, Plan and Gladiator look noticeably stronger in the Dutch.

Triumphal Arch suddenly seems to offer a magnificent reward for extremely precise deck management.

The differences to Young Witch and Madman are unlikely ever to matter

Urchin is probably generally weakened
Rogue is definitely weakened

I really like mistranslated Pirate Ship. It's an interesting variant of Miser where it hurts your current hand less but may help your opponents, while also discouraging treasure based strategies in general.

I really like the difference in Madman for games where it's the only village.

Plan is basically in the same space as Chapel and Donate - extremely powerful but the games with it aren't going to be boring and the rest of the kingdom matters.

Instead of judging the cards, I'm going to judge the mistranslations themselves. Let me start off by saying that every mistranslation is stupid and that the Dutch cards have way too many of them, and that I wish that someone who is actually fluent in both languages and actually plays Dominion would do the translation. However, not all mistakes are equal.

11. Triumphal Arch - Honestly it's debatable if this is an actual mistranslation or just clunky word usage. The words on the card don't actually make a coherent Dutch sentence in my book, which is not great but it's slightly less bad than an actual mistranslation.
10. Plan - probably the most understandable mistranslation, I was confused as well when I read Plan for the first time. Its mechanics are rather counterintuitive, and this is probably the only mistake I could have made as well.
9. Young Witch - Makes so little difference mechanically that it's somewhat forgivable.
8. Madman - It would be cool if Madman worked this way, but otherwise it's a dumb mistake.
7. Tribute - It would be cool if Tribute worked this way, but otherwise it's a dumb mistake.
6. Stonemason - This mistake totally breaks the card, which is pretty awful.
4/5. Pirate Ship/Rogue - They basically made the same mistake TWICE, that's an extra reason to end up higher on this list.
3. Bandit - This is a serious mistake that could have been avoided so easily. Furthermore, it's in the new Base set, so everyone who plays Dominion is now bothered by mistranslations, not just players who play with expansions...
2. Urchin - If they confused +Action with +Buy, they have clearly never played the game.
1. Gladiator - How the actual f*** did they screw up translating a number? All they had to do was NOT change it. Seriously.

Probably for a similar reason that some online cards had incorrect coin amounts (I think I remember the Russian Horse Traders). While everything else is text, the coin symbol needs to come from somewhere else, and it probably needs to be layoutet differently and then the number needs to applied on top of it. So instead of just "one text", you have 3 sources that make up the final appearance: the normal text, the coin symbol and the number on top of the coin symbol. At least that's how it works online at the moment. It's easier to make a mistake if that "1" on the coin symbol stands alone, instead of in context of the whole sentence.

Also note that Gladiator has 2 coin symbols with numerals, so what probably happened is that somebody looked at something, wondered why it said "1" when it should say "2", only thinking about the first part, and changed it. Of course, that doesn't excuse that later stages did not find the error, but let me guess: There were no or only minimal later stages.

When playing Dominion yesterday evening, we noticed a mistranslation that's not yet found on the Wiki, namely Orchard. Dutch Orchard forgets to mention that only Action cards count; it omits the word 'Action' ('Actie').

Thanks, I'll add that to the Wiki.

EDIT: Now I'm wondering whether Overlord is wrong. 'This is that card until it leaves play.' has become 'De Despoot blijft de gekozen kaart zolang hij in het spel is.' And Beggar...

EDIT2: I'm doing a full check-up now and Smugglers is actually wrong. English Smugglers uses 'That the played to your right gained...', Dutch Smugglers uses 'gained or bought'. Using the latter, a player can buy, say, a Village, reveal Trader, and gain a Silver instead. Dutch Smugglers lets you gain Village or Silver, while English Smuggler only lets you gain the Silver.

I've been doing the Dutch translation error page and adding Dutch names from new expansions since after Guilds released in the Netherlands (and whoever did it before me stopped).
