I noticed some alternative ruins being suggested in the interview with Donald X thread. Some serious, some humorous.

The ruins are already a bit of a joke, and I think there is more fun to be had:

If you were going to have Ruins that directly played cards rather than giving you +Action, you could have had Ruined Throne Room. "You may play an Action card from your hand once."
Ruined Feast: "Trash this card."
Ruined Cellar: "Discard any number of cards."
Ruined Sauna: "You may play a Ruined Avanto from your hand."
Ruined Avanto: "You may play a Ruined Sauna from your hand."
...

Visit the "Really bad card ideas" thread for quite a few more non-serious ones of these.

"Ruined Feast" is a totally fine one that you'll also find there, although perhaps as "Ruined Chapel". I think we also had another, more serious approach to this before in these subforums (apologies for not delivering the link, I'm on mobile).

Some fan card designers such as C0okieL0rd have included their own Ruins in their fan sets, too.

Now that I think about it, this IS a better place to collect Ruins ideas (serious or not) that the VBCI thread. So here goes:

Defiled Chapel
Trash this.

Fast
Trash this to gain a Ruins.

Ruined Throne Room (Donald's idea)
You may play a Ruins from your hand twice.

Dry Oasis
+1 Card
+1 Action
Discard a card.

Starveling (by Co0kieL0rd)
Gain two Coppers to your hand.

Dry Moat
When another player plays an Attack card, you may first discard this, to be unaffected by it.

Funeral Procession
You may play an Action card from your hand. Trash it.

If one pile is empty, +1 Card. If two piles are empty, +1$.

Ruined Villa
When you gain this, put it into your hand.

Bankrupt Trader
Trash a card from your hand. Gain a Copper.
When you would gain a card, you may reveal this to gain a Copper instead.

Bankrupt Counting House
Look through your discard pile and put a Copper from it into your hand.

Waylaid Messenger
You may put your deck into your discard pile.

Failed Pillage
Trash this. Gain a Copper and look at each other player's hand.

Compromised Spy
Look at the top card of each player's deck.

Ruined Tournament: Each player may reveal a Province from their hand. If you do, discard it and +1$ +1 Action, +1 Card. If no one else does, you may trash an action from your hand or in play.

Ruined Leprechaun: Gain a Gold. Then, unless you have exactly 7 cards in play, gain a curse and discard your hand.

Ruined Shepherd: +1 Action, Discard any number of Victory cards, revealing them. +2 Cards per card discarded.

Ruined Embargo: Gain a curse and place this on top of a supply pile (this card may be bought or gained from that pile, and cards underneath it cannot).

Yes, it would be stronger than any of the published Ruins, but still it would be a card that you would normally prefer not to have, which I think is the common feature of Ruins.

Innocuous Swindler: Each other player trashes the top card of their deck and gains a card with the same cost that they choose.

Younger Witch: Each other player may reveal a card from their hand; if they don't, they gain a Curse.

Ruined Moneylender: You may discard a Copper from your hand for +$1.

Ruined Vassal: Discard the top card of your deck. If it is a Victory card, you may play it.

Ruined Workshop: Gain a card costing $0.

Ruined Gardens: Worth $1 per 10 Ruins you have (round down).

Ruined Courtyard: Draw a card. Put it onto your deck.

Ruined Lurker: Trash a Ruins from the supply, or gain a Ruins from the trash.

Ruined Masquerade: Each other player with any cards in hand passes one to the next such player to their left, at once.

Ruined Shanty Town: Reveal your hand. If you have no Action cards in hand, +2 Actions.

Ruined Swindler: Each other player trashes the top card of their deck and gains a card from the trash or Supply with the same cost that they choose.

Ruined Wishing Well: Name a card.

Ruined Baron: You may buy an Estate for $4. If you don't, discard an Estate.

Ruined Bridge: This turn, Ruins (everywhere) cost $1 less, but not less than $0.

Ruined Secret Passage: Take a card from your hand and put it anywhere in your discard pile.

Ruined Trading Post: Trash a card from your hand. If you did, gain a Ruin to your hand.

Ruined Wharf: At the start of your next turn, +1 Buy.

Ruined Tactician: Discard your hand.

Ruined Island: Gain a Curse onto your Island mat.

Ruined Grand Market: +1 Card, +1 Action, +1$, +1 Buy
Ruined City: +1 Card, +2 Actions
Ruined Expand: Trash a card from your hand to gain a card costing up to 2$ more.

Quacksalver
Name a card. Reveal the top 3 cards of your deck, discard any with the name, and put the rest back in any order.

Conspiracy Theorist
If you have played 3 or more cards this turn (including this) +1 Action +1$.

Obvious Counterfeit
Treasure-Ruins
You may play a Treasure from your hand.

Dead Bug Collection
Reveal your hand. If there are no duplicates, +1 Card +1 Action.

Meyerpire
Night-Ruins-Attack
Gain a card costing up to $1. Each other player may receive the next Hex.
When you discard this, exchange it for a Rats.

Bad Bank: Worth 1$ per Ruins you have in play.

Anarchistic Saboteur: Each player reveals cards from the top of their deck until revealing one costing $3 or more, trashes it and may gain a card costing at most $2 less than it, discarding the other cards.

Poorly disguised Passage: +2 Cards, +1 Action. Put this anywhere in the deck of the player to your left.

Ruined Coppersmith: Copper produces 1$ this turn.

Philosopher's Pebble: Count the cards in your deck and discard pile.

Bad Bank: Worth 1$ per Ruins you have in play.
Trouble is, that one could potentially be better than normal Bank. Especially if you played Champion immediately after the Ruins pile emptied.

New Looter suggestion...
Restore (Action Attack Looter, Costs 5): Each other player gains a Ruins. Gain an un-ruined card corresponding to one of them. (The card you gain may come from the supply or the box).

And then of course the corresponding Ruin:
Underfunded Restoration: Each player (including you) gains a Ruins.
