Dominion Tournaments // Offline in Los Angeles

Hi everyone!

My name is Jeremy, I usually go by the name of my indie studio but now you know the secret. I guess a quick introduction is in order: I'm pretty new to Dominion. I was introduced to the core 2nd edition at a board game cafe, and dominated the players who introduced me to the game once I grasped the concepts and internalized the card effects. Pretty exciting stuff for a newbie. I can see why this is the classic/go-to of Deckbuilders. I'm working at an LGS now and there has been interest in Dominion Tourneys and that is how I was referred to this forum (I'm sure I would've eventually found out through someone on BGG).

So it goes without saying I'm going to be organizing some Dominion Tournaments (and am reaching out to Rio Grande now for support and to see if they'll have any official OP structure for this or next year) in the LA area.

I was wondering if anyone here has some advice on structuring them or any modifications to make for better game balance in a Tourney setting, which expansions to include, etc.

Also what would be good for prize support in addition to whatever RG sends? I tend to keep OP kits and special promo stuff around but I feel like a Dominion Tourney will mostly be filled with people who own almost everything Dominion related already!

The typical format is 3-4 player games for RGG sanctioned tournaments.

A number of past tournaments have run with a $5 entry fee and promos and/or store credit prizes.

That was pretty much what I was looking at, maybe I'll add something special to it to make things more exciting.

I'm afraid I haven't heard back from Rio Grande Games yet. Although I did use a form instead of direct email so it will probably be some time before it gets processed!

Sorry for the bump! I finally got support from RGG and am ready to set up a tournament. They mostly sent a bunch of random packs of Dominion Kingdom cards.

I'll probably do prizing in Store Credit but I need to double-check Scotts instructions. I'll be running advertised games of Dominion in the coming weeks to support it.

Any other advice? Which expansions should I use if any during a tourney? Sorry I'm still a newbie of Dominion. I've only been able to play twice. One of which was a victory on my Birthday at least!

Sorry I'm still a newbie of Dominion. I've only been able to play twice.

Advice: Play more games! You want to be confident enough to handle rules questions and issues, should they arise.
