These two boons are to be kept until cleanup. What is the practical effect of this? Does it affect how many times you may receive the same boon? Does it mean that your opponent can "steal" the boon? Or is it pure reminder?

It's purely for tracking the effect. As a side effect it means they aren't in the deck which means they might miss a shuffle of it.
