How did this happen?

On my turn I have 10 hagglers in play, I buy a Border Village to gain the last duchy, 10 IGGs, emptying both that pile and the curse pile.

The next turn I buy last Province to end the game.

Why didn't the game end on my previous turn?

You're playing a 5 or 6 player game which ends when 4 supply piles are empty... not 3?

From Intrigue rules: "Use 15 Province cards with 5 players and 18 Province cards with 6 players. All other Victory card piles are 12 cards each. Use 40 Curse cards with 5 players and 50 Curse cards with 6 players. Games ends when all Province cards are empty or 4 supply piles are empty"

Doesn't work because you also have 10 Hagglers in play, so presumably that pile is empty as well!

The puzzle refers to "on my turn", and "on the next turn".   "Previous turn" thus refers to the turn before your Border village purchase, when there weren't empty piles?  You were just cheating even thinking about that province.

Ok how about this.

You buy the border village during the black market phase. You have also previously to this turn obtained 2 curses and 2 duchies. You gain 10 IGG's from the Hagglers in play. At this point the haggelrs, duchies, IGG's and Curses are depleted. After the Black Market phase, you play 2 ambassadors returning 2 each of curses and duchies to the supply. Thus at the end of your turn only Hagglers and IGG's are depleted and the game continues.

It should also be noted this only works in 2P.

Exactly the solution I was thinking of!
It also works in games with more players with Moat or Lighthouse.
