Can I sign up for a country I'm not related to?

Um the entire point is you're playing for your country. If that's thrown out the window, what point is there in a World Cup?

Ask Higuan (or many of the 1998 French winners) and multiple other soccer players.

That's a pretty unfair comparison.  You can't compare the glory of winning the Dominion World Cup with the dinky imitation "world cup" that soccer uses.

I very much dislike it when people do this. For some of the players they have a citizenship to these other countries so they can go ahead and do it, but with what Joseph was asking, why would someone who's never even been to Russia let alone live there want to be on a Russian team, for example?

You assume I've never been to Russia and that I'm not a citizen.

I don't understand why a province that isn't recognised by the UN as a country is allowed to masquerade as a country for the purposes of sport.  :P

This is obviously still going on and I'll make the thread soon after the ShuffleIT Tourney ends. I've thought more about things but I still do think it will mostly depend on what gets the most amount of good players in.

Removing those teams is an exercise in making people unhappy, seriously unhappy, in order to ... in order to do what exactly?

I find this a good opportunity to ask it here. Is there is any Hungarian player in the community?
Although I doubt I find enough for a semi-competitive team.

We can form an Austro-Hungarian Team...

I would like to join, but I don't think there's any other danish players.
There is a danish facebook board gaming group, where I can try to ask and search for 3 other players (or however many is required).

I don't think the competitiveness should have any factor at all in the teams. If a country can put together enough players they should be allowed to compete.
I think there should just be a rule of "1 team per country" or "2 teams per country" and then make a competition with the signed up teams.
And I think players signed up from countries without enough players should be put together by the tournament leader(s), so players from countries near eachother form teams. (So you can sign up without a full team, but then you aren't guaranteed to be put in the tournament).

Hello,
I would interested in participating in such an event. I know at least one more player from Turkey (iremio :-)), and I believe there may be more. Perhaps we could also team up with another country (Denmark?), though I am not sure if that would be allowed.

cheers,
ato (therem.harth)

When the sign-up thread is up, just sign up, list your country, your ShuffleIT username and we'll see what happens from there!  :D It'll all be based on turnout. I can't promise anything else. As listed before, I am quite happy to create groups of countries as a singular team, The Refugee Team.

I'm from DK. I don't have a subscription to dominion.games and I'm probably highly mediocre (on a good day), but I would happily click on card-shaped objects for the proverbial lulz.

A colleague of mine plays Dominion. I can poke him and ask if he's interested... ?
