Thematically speaking, I don't really see how throne room and kings court would let you play something twice.  It's just a room

Well, "you" are, according to the theming of dominion, a king / queen / nonbinary monarch. So anything with a "Royal" flavor affects the playing of actions, the thing where you are most involved. Not just Throne Room and King's Court, but Royal Carriage, Crown, and Prince. Not sure if Procession counts, and Disciple and Herald don't have that theme at all, but it's clearly a running motif.

Good point.  I guess that's true.

I've always thought that based on the name, Loan should do something a little bit more like capital does. You'd think you'd get a bunch of money from a loan, but instead it helps you trash money.

I love how thematic beggar is.  I think from the artwork, to the effect, to the set it came in, it is perfect.

One theming oddity I have noticed is with Dark Ages villages.

The general theme for a village is a place where you would expect to find a number of people. For some DA villages this holds true, i.e. Fortress or Bandit Camp. Other DA villages though are an individual, Squire, Madman and Wandering Minstrel. In later sets villages return to their normal theme.

I think it's more like the kind of loan you get from a loanshark - you get a little bit of money from it, but you wind up paying interest on it that costs an arm and a leg.

Harem doesn't fit with the theming for either victory or treasure cards.

This is still the winner for me.
