Won by quite a bit here, but my opponent didn't really play that great, at least I don't think so. Gardens seem strong here, benefiting from Cultist(both for points and running piles,) and Messenger for the same reasons.

Anyways, what I'm wondering is if Workshop was the best way to go about racking up points for Gardens, and also the importance of Defiled Shrine and maybe Quest. I got Squire early because Squire not only helps w/ WS collisions later on, but can either gain a Silver or 2 buys for Coppers or w/e(later realized ruins were the way to go and 3 piled w/ those.) For those reasons I wonder if WS might even have been skippable here.

I like Hermit a lot, but it's a cheaper gainer than WS and has less to offer here than Squire. the trashing is mostly counterproductive, except for Defiled Shrine which is why I ask. Madman is awesome too, but trashing a gainer for a card that also will remove itself seems really bad for Gardens mostly. Plus you gotta forego a buy...so Hermit sucks here right?

Other than that I think I got it, Altar might've been a bad idea though. But I know from asking earlier that Cellar isn't that great for Gardens. Quarry really wouldn't make much sense, except it would make Squire free for when I had many buys, so maybe. A Cultist of my own might've been a good idea, since my opponent wasn't going Gardens(got 1 but that's negligible.) Plus it can get me a Gold w/ Quest.

You bought Curse way too early. It should not be your opening buy. I know you're afraid of "losing" the easy VP there, but you essentially opened Workshop / Duchy, which is terrible even for a Gardens slog. I'd get another Workshop or Messenger - Workshop, and pick up a Curse in the next shuffle if you have the spare Buy somewhere.

Hermit isn't great in a Gardens slog when you have Workshop to buy instead, I would avoid it. Squire is fine when you have $2 and a Buy - it just gains you so many cards per play, and collision isn't terrible with it and other terminals.

This should be mainly cultist rush. Possible oppenings are quarry/silver or quarry/ratcatcher if opponents doesn't looks to go into cultists. With some ratcatcher thinning unoppossed cultist would empty province pile quite fast. I don't see garden slog there.

If its cultist mirror then gardens will be good, add squires and perhaps ratcathers to trash them for cultists.
