Best Dominion moments 2017

A new thread for a new year. To landmarks and Empires now being available online!

What to do with all of those Estates from Crowned Followers? I know!

J plays a Forge.
J trashes 4 Estates.
J gains a Province.

In an IRL game recently:

aku chi plays Advisor
aku chi reveals Ruined Market, Advisor, and Sacrifice
aku chi discards Ruined Market

And that was the correct play from my opponent; I really wanted that Ruined Market!

In that same game, I got to 8-point Fairgrounds.  Thanks Marauder!  (...and Tournament)

Building an engine with no trashing, opponent buys sixth Province.

Me to chat: "Oh hey, I should stop dicking around and buy some points."

Opponent doesn't have $8 that turn, thankfully!

In IRL recently failed to notice as my opponent buys literally the entire Colony pile.

In a later game, built a golden deck with Sacrifice/Fortress and Tomb. I just decided to not buy anything and see if my opponent could win. He barely did, but not before I got 195 points all in VP tokens.

I managed to put together probably the most powerful engine I can remember building and then through a stupid mistake shut it down entirely.

The board featured Farming Village, Port, Fortress, Wild Hunt, Baron, Vagrant and Sacrifice. I won the Wild Hunt split 6-4.

With abundant village support I was able to play 5 Wild Hunts to draw my deck and build up the points and then the 6th to gain an Estate and claim the points. I could then repeatedly discard the Estate with Baron and redraw it with outstanding villages or Vagrants before finally Sacrificing it.

7VP a turn without clogging my deck with green and plenty of economy and +buy from Baron to hammer down piles. What could go wrong? It didn't occur to me what would happen when the Estate pile was empty. My super-engine was now gaining no points and generating no economy each turn. I snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Yeah, that sounds rough. Surely you were on the verge of a 3-pile though? Ports in particular seem like they'd be the last pile after WH and Estates. Actually I would have assumed that Estates would have been the 3rd pile.

One Port buy away from it.

I was playing 3 Barons per turn, so three buys meant I gained 3 coppers to restart my economy, so I still should have been able to win it on my next turn by Sacrificing one of the coppers giving me 4 to spend. However I had a dud draw so my engine didn't go off. Two dud turns allowed my opponent to catch up and win.

Probably should have cleared the Ports earlier but I started going for the other villages because of Orchard.

Duplicates are empty.  Labs are one away from empty.

7 Duplicates on mat, 5 Groundskeepers in play.

Buy Duchy.  Duplicate x 7.  Buy Lab to end game.  64 points.

(Opponent had 5 Provinces and was going to be buying 6/7 very soon.)

There isn't a Worst Dominion Moments thread, so this will have to do:

Opening hand: CCEEE
Turn 1: Buy Chapel; draw CCCCC
Turn 2: Buy Relic; reshuffle, draw CCCEE
Turn 3: Buy Vassal; draw CCCCE
Turn 4: Buy Talisman; reshuffle, draw Chapel, Relic, Vassal, Talisman, and Cooper

Total cards trashed, turns 1–7: one

I just used the Watchtower + Magpie trick with Secret Passage for support to gain 8 Magpies in one turn, and buy Triumph for 9 VP (trashing the Estate)!  My opponent probably should have contested the Magpies...

Just played an IRL game with City Quarter, Mission, Summon, Bridge Troll, Enchantress, and Wild Hunt.  My turns starting taking 15 minutes as my engine would putter through a few Wild Hunts, then Mission, then play a few more before finally taking the Estate and points.  With Bridge Troll, I even Summoned Wild Hunt a couple turns.

IRL opponent had bought Banquet a few times and taken the VP from Wild Hunt twice, and wasn't really doing anything to deal with the junk. This led to a surprising moment in the late game when his Tactician hand was literally a starting deck.

Played a Wharf-BM game with Wall and Mint on the board. Loaded up on treasure cards and draw, and on the last turn after emptying the Provinces, bought Mint, trashing 15 treasures.

Two, although on a 5/2 (which my opponent had) you could trash three if you're lucky (which he wasn't).

I just opened Travelling Fair/Chapel/Alms/Tournament.

TF/Chapel on turn 1, trash 4 cards and Alms for Tournament on turn 2. There isn't really a way to do all of that in just 1 turn as far as I can tell.

Like, on two turns back to back, or in 1 turn?

TF/Chapel on turn 1, trash 4 cards and Alms for Tournament on turn 2. There isn't really a way to do all of that in just 1 turn as far as I can tell.
I think you can do that on Turn 2 of the opening if you get 5/2 and buy Travelling Fair/Poor House/non-Treasure on Turn 1, so you start Turn 2 with a hand of Poor House-non-Treasure-Estate-Estate-Estate.  I don't think you can do that Turn 1 (certainly not in a 2-player game), because you need $4 for Travelling Fair/Chapel, but can't buy Alms with Coppers in play, meaning you need $4 other than your starting Coppers.  Baker and Borrow can get you to $2, but I can't see how you get the other $2.  Maybe when Nocturne comes out, one of the Heirlooms will be a +$ Action card or a one-shot Treasure (like Spoils), and then it will be possible.

Edit: I found one.  6-player game, with Chapel, Horse Traders, Messenger, Noble Brigand, Baker, Lost City, Alms, Travelling Fair.
Player 1: Buys Messenger, gives out Horse Traders (you have 5 cards in deck, Horse Traders in discard).
Player 2: Buys Noble Brigand (you have 3 cards in deck, Horse Traders and others in discard).
Player 3: Buys Noble Brigand (you have 1 card in deck, Horse Traders and others in discard).
Player 4: Buys Lost City (you have no cards in deck, Horse Traders and others in discard).
Player 5: Buys Lost City (you reshuffle and draw Horse Traders).
You: Play Horse Traders, spend Baker coin, buy Travelling Fair/Chapel/Alms/Tournament.

I once played Doctor with one card left in my deck.  I knew it was Estate, so I named Estate.  This showed up in the log:
Ki plays a Doctor.
Ki names Estate.
Ki shuffles their deck.
Ki reveals 3 Estates.
Ki trashes 3 Estates.

The next time through the deck:
Ki plays a Doctor.
Ki names Copper.
Ki reveals 3 Coppers.
Ki trashes 3 Coppers.

C plays a King's Court.
C plays a King's Court.
C plays a Lurker.
C gains a Wine Merchant.
C plays a Lurker again.
C trashes a Wine Merchant.
C plays a Lurker a third time.
C gains a Wine Merchant.
C plays a King's Court again.
C plays a Herald.
C draws a Copper.
C reveals a Copper.
C plays a Herald again.
C draws a Copper.
C shuffles their deck.
C reveals a Wine Merchant.
C plays a Wine Merchant.
C puts a Wine Merchant on their Tavern mat.
C plays a Herald a third time.
C draws a Copper.
C reveals a Wine Merchant.
C plays a Wine Merchant.
C puts a Wine Merchant on their Tavern mat.
C plays a King's Court a third time.
C plays a Wine Merchant.
C puts a Wine Merchant on their Tavern mat.
C plays a Wine Merchant again.
C plays a Wine Merchant a third time.

I ended up with something like 7 Wine Merchants on my mat. It wasn't quite enough to end the game, sadly. I ended up losing because my opponent got a head start with an amazingly lucky Count/Lurker opening. I would have beat him if it weren't for that, because he was clearly misplaying it.
