How to do a travellerline competition

Hi everyone,

What do you think is the proper way to make a travellerline? Above are some options, but feel free to suggest others.

I feel like "concept", "last card", "other cards" would be the way to do it. You want to do the Travellers all at once, and only do the final card as it's own thing.

So basically 3 competitions?

(1) the concept
(2) the first four card
(3) the final card?

Yes, but 3 and 2 in reverse order. The final card strength and ability should influence the effects of the Travellers (i.e. How much they help vs hurt cycling).

By the way, only the first four cards are called Travellers - the final card never has that type.

I voted for the third option, but I would lean toward doing concept + any card (and most people would probably submit the final card?), followed by however many rounds for the other cards. I think voting for the concept on its own is not as interesting, but maybe that's just me (and I don't think concept + first card is necessarily the best idea - the first card is probably the least likely to tie to the concept anyway).

I'd prefer if when you gave the general concept you also gave the general concept for each card, like:
Quote
Theme: Terminal draw and villages
Traveller 1: Weak village
Traveller 2: Weak terminal draw
Traveller 3: Strong Village
Traveller 4: Strong terminal draw
(not a) Traveller 5: Strong village/Strong terminal draw

First- Get an idea for the last's cards effect.

Second- Create a 5 believable names for the line.

Third- Keep creating filler effects for the other 4 cards until you're happy with the look of the line.

I am tending towards CiM's idea, with theta's idea as a possible alternative.

Travellers are the most difficult type of card to design. So posting rough, untested concepts without any playtesting is probably not that useful; nobody will print out stuff he doesn't know will even be moderately balanced.

Actually, Yes! Many cards I play with I have no idea on the balance, and some are so unbalanced anyways that they may as well have been comepltley untested!

Few cards here are updated after some playtesting which is sad. But then again only few people actually print out fan cards (I do) or use Tabletop Simulator.

I don't wanna discourage people from coming up with Traveller ideas but if you witnessed how often Cookielord changed his Traveller cards might have an idea about how hard it is to do this well. I definitely wouldn't dare to do it.

Well, I ususally update the cards I play with after I test them, being able to change things is half the reason I re-do cards.

Co0kiel0rd did change his traveller a ton, but to be fair it is quite complex, and is different by the official travellers. I'm working on a traveller line and it's not that hard to nail down a good concept and 5 good starting points for each traveller, it just needs a lot of tweaking.

Some people like Chris is Me, some people want to do everything at once.

Compromise:

- First people think of a concept + final card. That's one election.
- And than an election for all the travellers leading up to it.

How would that work? :)

I want to start the competition tomorrow, so time is short to discuss this idea.
